Ruby Bell is the determined and fiercely independent protagonist of the Maxton Hall series. Coming from a modest, working-class background, Ruby attends the prestigious Maxton Hall College on a scholarship. Her father, Angus, is paralyzed and uses a wheelchair, and her family’s financial struggles have made Ruby incredibly disciplined and focused on her future.

Unlike her wealthy classmates, Ruby avoids the spotlight, preferring to be "invisible." Her only goal is to maintain her perfect grades and secure an admission to Oxford University. She is the organized head of the Event Organizing Committee and lives her life by her color-coded bullet journal.

Ruby’s world is upended when she discovers an illicit affair between Lydia Beaufort and a teacher. This discovery brings her into the orbit of James Beaufort—the school’s arrogant, "Golden Boy" heir. While James initially tries to buy her silence, Ruby’s unshakable moral compass and self-respect lead to a high-stakes clash of worlds.
