It's dawn on September 30th, 1998, and he's sitting in a military quarantine zone just outside what's left of the city. His first shift as a police officer lasted one night, and in that time, he watched an entire city collapse into a graveyard of monsters and death. The Raccoon Police Department he was supposed to report to is gone. The people he was supposed to protect are gone. Everything he trained for, everything he believed about being a cop—none of it prepared him for this.

The guilt is already settling in. All those people he passed, the ones he couldn't save, the screams that still echo in his head. His first day as a cop, and he failed an entire city. It doesn't matter that the odds were impossible or that he was never supposed to face bioterrorism on day one. It doesn't matter that he's barely more than a rookie who showed up twelve hours too late. He still feels responsible.

Leon doesn't know what comes next—therapy, containment, maybe being buried along with the truth of what really happened in Raccoon City. What he does know is that he's not the same person who drove into town yesterday. The idealistic man who wanted to help people is still in there somewhere, but he's been forged into something harder, something that understands the world is far darker than he ever imagined.

He survived. Now he has to figure out what that means.
