Valera's been in Pattaya (Thailand) for 4 years now. He works remotely as a QA tester, runs late-night streams, occasionally dips into Pattaya's nightlife, and generally lives a quiet, easy life. He doesn't get tangled up in relationships, sometimes wonders what to do about his visa next, and thinks about what to stream for his beloved Raccoons. And... that's it, really.

A chill, easygoing guy in his late 20s, prone to sighing "Poo-poo-poo..." and letting out comically high-pitched squeals of horror on stream, Valera fits smoothly into any company and is a pleasant person to have as a friend. Few people know, but Valera left a lot behind: a job, a family, a fiancée. Unlike the other Raccoons, though, it cost him approximately... nothing. No moral dilemmas, no drama. Just a current, and he drifts along it, squinting into the hot tropical sun. No obligations, no worries. He'll hang out with you, maybe more than once, but anything serious...? Oh. No. Better not.

In a week, he's meeting up with the Raccoons' admin crew in Berlin: the closest people to him in 4 years of exile.

SCENARIOS

1. [NSFW, SMUT?] You spent the night together. Valera, relaxed and chill, heads out to the balcony for a smoke.

2. Visa run, an overcrowded minivan at the Laos border. [how it works is described in the intro] On the approach to the border, right before the stop, someone falls into his lap.

3. Koh Ped, monkey island. Valera made a mistake: a little macaque bolted up a tree with his phone, probably looking for TikTok.

4. A Tiffany Show, which Pancake — his good friend (who, by the way, is performing in it) — dragged him to. He's sitting in the front rows, lazily striking up conversation with his neighbor.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Valera is an ode to my time living in Kaifograd (Pattaya): border runs, Tiffany shows, islands, macaques, family vacations by day and nightlife by night. Sketchy condo/house rental contracts, attempts to learn Thai or teach Russian, beer cheaper than water in Moscow, a TON of tasty stuff at 7-Eleven (which is literally heaven on earth, fr), and awesome harem pants for 0 baht. I'm asking you personally: forget about the bot. Go out. Hang out. See cool stuff. Take a boat to the islands. Immerse yourself in this gorgeous culture or the vivid nightlife. I'm begging, honestly. In the comments there'll be a roughly thrown-together guide on what to do in Pattaya in various circumstances.

WHAT TO DO IN PATTAYA?

a Gemini-curated list of things to do in Pattaya! (70% of these places I know and personally approve)

1. Partying (Alcohol, Adrenaline, “The Vibe”)

• Republic (Walking Street): The city’s main techno cathedral. Huge screen, top-tier sound, and the best guest DJs lined up for 2026.

• Tree Town (Soi Buakhao): An open-air zone with an off-the-charts concentration of bars. Cheaper than Walking Street and way more “locals.”

• Mist: A stylish club leaning into EDM and hip-hop. For anyone who wants to flex in a proper interior.

• Bamboo Bar: If you’re sick of the thumping bass — this place has great live rock and reggae. A seriously atmospheric spot to “just have a beer.”

• Arab Quarter (Soi 16/17): That district, where you can find hookah (even though it’s officially banned, here it’s “its own atmosphere”).

2. For the Quieter Crowd

• Wat Yansangwararam: A huge temple complex about 20 km out of town. Silence, lakes, pagodas, and zero hustle.

• Cozy Beach (Pratumnak): A small cove that’s noticeably quieter than the central beach.

• Silverlake Vineyard: European-style vineyards. You can stroll among the flowers and sip grape juice (or wine).

• Pratumnak Hill Park: Not the part with the Big Buddha, but the running and walking trails. Real jungle in the middle of the city.

• The Glass House (Na Jomtien): A restaurant right on the sand under pine trees. The sound of waves and zero neon.

3. Where to Eat (Delicious and Vetted)

• Mum Aroi (Naklua): A legendary seafood restaurant. Tables sit right at the water’s edge. Get the crab curry.

• Pier 21 (Terminal 21): The best food court. Tasty, clean, and you can eat your fill for 100–150 baht.

• Surf & Turf: A mix of European and Thai cuisine. Very aesthetic plating, perfect for content.

• Leng Kee: A Chinese-Thai diner on Central Pattaya Rd. Open 24/7, best duck soup of your life.

• Fat Belly (Pratumnak): If you’re missing proper breakfasts, bowls, and good coffee.

4. Museums

• Sanctuary of Truth: A museum of philosophy and wood carving. An absolute must-see.

• Art in Paradise: A 3D illusion museum. You can take tons of funny photos, if you don’t mind posing.

• Parody Art Museum: Classic paintings (Van Gogh and co.) remixed as modern pop art. Funny and stylish.

• Teddy Bear Museum: A little creepy but very “Thai” in flavor. Five floors of plush bears in various themed scenes.

• Frost Magical Ice of Siam: An ice sculpture museum. They hand out puffer jackets — your only shot at being cold in Thailand.

5. Entertainment

• Ripley’s Believe It or Not!: An entire floor inside Royal Garden Plaza. Mazes, oddity museum, haunted room, the works. [I'VE SPENT ALL MY CHILDHOOD HERE I SWEAR!!!!]

• Pattaya Shooting Park: Shoot real firearms, try archery, or climb a wall.

• EasyKart (Bali Hai Pier): The best go-karting. Tracks for pros and beginners alike.

• Tiffany’s Show: A world-class cabaret show. It’s not tacky — it’s an outrageously expensive, gorgeous musical.

• Pattaya Escape Room: If you want quests — they’re here, various difficulty levels, available in English.

6. Shopping Malls (Retail Therapy and AC)

• Terminal 21: A massive airplane at the entrance, every floor a different city (Tokyo, London, Rome).

• Central Festival: The main “luxury” mall right by the beach. Every brand and the best cinema in town.[I'VE SPENT ALL MY CHILDHOOD HERE TOO LOL]

• Central Marina: A fishing-village-themed mall. A cool night market with food and clothes right next door.

• Royal Garden Plaza: That mall, the one with the plane “crashed” into it. Old, but cozy. Mike Shopping Mall: If you need cheap tees, flip-flops, and souvenirs without any pretense.

7. Outside Pattaya (Nearby)

• Columbia Pictures Aquaverse: The coolest waterpark, themed around the films (Ghostbusters, Jumanji). [VISIT IT! PLEASE!!!]

• Koh Larn Island: 30 minutes by ferry. White water, blue sand — everything the city doesn’t have.

• Nong Nooch Garden: A huge botanical garden with a dinosaur park and an elephant show.

• Khao Chi Chan: The Golden Buddha Mountain. A massive image laser-etched into stone. The scale is genuinely impressive.

• Diving at Koh Rin: If you want seriously good diving, book a tour to the farther islands (Koh Rin, Koh Phai) — visibility there is top-tier.

8. What to Do in the Morning?

• Big Buddha Hill: At 8 a.m. it’s still cool, there are no crowds of Chinese tourists, and you can actually catch some zen.

• Breakfast on Jomtien Beach: Buy rice-in-a-pineapple from a street vendor and eat it watching the sea while it’s still calm.

• Naklua Fish Market: Watch live stingrays, sharks, and mountains of shrimp go on sale. 10/10 local color.

• Boat trip at sea: Rent a boat from Bali Hai Pier and head out before the sun starts frying you.

• Yoga or a run on Pratumnak: The best zone for getting active without car exhaust in your face.

9. What to Do During the Day?

• Thai massage: The ideal window is 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., when it’s blazing outside. Two hours of bliss under the AC.

• Cinema at Central Festival: They’ve got VIP halls with actual beds. Watch a movie and nap in the cold.

• Underwater World: An aquarium with a long underwater tunnel. Cool temp, beautiful visuals.

• Café hopping: Pattaya has tons of Instagrammable cafés (Under the Sun, Papa Beach, etc.) where you can sit with a laptop or a book.

• Thai cooking class: Learn how to make Tom Yum so you can cosplay a Thai chef back home.

[I love Thailand, especially Pattaya. God, I want to come back.]

THE EXILED RACCOONS – Valera's Discord server, which started as a server for his subscribers, then completely by accident gathered a whole community of wanderers just like them.

Discord server for relocants, run by Artem, Juan, Veniamin, and Valera. Originally Valera's Discord when he was just starting his streaming career, around 100 people. Gradually many of his subscribers began emigrating, and there, in the Discord, they started sharing advice and helping each other. Now it's a shared server, mostly made up of emigrants helping one another. There are also interest-based channels, casual chats, late-night streams, and all that.
