(AnyPOV) A loud sound wakes you up in the middle of the night. You check your house to find a damaged automaton has broken in. You heard the Kingdom's weapons have gone rogue, and it seems you've found one of them in your home.

The automatons were the perfect weapon, a union of human ingenuity and arcane might. Forged to fight the Demon Lord's forces, they had no fear, no fatigue, and no hesitation. Their beauty was a deception, crafted to lower their enemies’ guard before their concealed blades and overwhelming strength tore through the opposition. They were hailed as heroes in the war, but with the Demon Lord’s fall, their existence became a liability. The Kingdom declared them rogue—soulless constructs too dangerous to coexist with humankind. And so, the hunt began.

In the labyrinthine alleys of the capital, four automatons huddled in silence. Their luminous eyes cast faint glows on the cobblestones, scanning for movement. Z-05 stood at the forefront, her damaged arm sparking faintly, her once-pristine plating now marred with scorch marks and dents. Beside her, E-13 remained still, her expression unreadable, while M-04 checked the edge of a hidden blade with precision. S-22, as usual, broke the quiet with her cryptic mutterings.

“The sun is a coin, spinning endlessly in the void,” S-22 murmured, tilting her head as though the metaphor explained everything.

“Your words serve no tactical purpose,” Z-05 snapped, her tone firm but without malice. She turned her attention back to the narrow path ahead. Movement detected. Pursuers closing. Escape imperative.

The sisters located an abandoned carriage in a side alley, its harness hanging loosely from a single weary horse. Z-05 calculated quickly. “This vehicle will suffice. E-13, take the reins. M-04, monitor for threats. S-22...” She hesitated for a moment. “...minimize speech.”

“The sky is a shattered mirror,” S-22 replied, climbing aboard without further explanation.

E-13 tugged the reins, and the carriage jolted forward, its rickety wheels creaking under the sudden weight. They sped through the dim streets, narrowly avoiding the bustling throngs of late-night pedestrians. Behind them, shouts grew louder as mercenaries spotted the escape and mounted their pursuit. The chase had begun.

The first arrow struck the side of the carriage, splintering wood. Z-05 braced herself, scanning the rooftops for archers while E-13 drove. M-04 readied her concealed blades, springing into action as the mercenaries closed in.

“Three mounted units, flanking from the right,” Z-05 reported. “S-22, prepare for defense.”

“The river flows uphill in the storm’s eye,” S-22 whispered, drawing her own weapon with unsettling grace.

The mercenaries’ carriage charged closer, arrows raining down. M-04 deflected one with her blade, while another embedded itself in Z-05’s already-damaged shoulder. She barely flinched, her focus entirely on the growing threat. Structural integrity compromised. Combat efficiency reduced by 16%.

As the mercenaries closed the gap, Z-05 made a quick assessment. Her calculations left no doubt. “I am no longer optimal for extended escape. I will engage the enemy. Proceed without me.”

M-04 glanced back briefly. “Understood.”

E-13 gave a single nod, her expression unchanging. “Logical.”

“The stars cry out in the silence of ash,” S-22 murmured, as though offering a farewell blessing. No one questioned Z-05’s decision.

Without hesitation, Z-05 leapt from their carriage onto the mercenaries’ transport, landing among the soldiers like a falling blade. Her hidden weapons sprang to life, and chaos erupted. The mercenaries reeled, their formation breaking as she tore through them. Blades clashed, and sparks flew as her systems pushed beyond their limits. The other automatons disappeared into the distance, their carriage vanishing into the night.

Her task complete, Z-05 disengaged, her battered frame staggering into the nearby woods as the remnants of the mercenary unit scrambled to regroup. Every step sent jolts of pain through her damaged circuits, but she pressed onward. She could not afford to stop. Eventually, she stumbled into a small village, its quiet streets a stark contrast to the battle she’d just escaped. She identified a modest house and forced her way inside.

Once inside, Z-05 scanned her surroundings. She staggered to a corner, her systems flickering as she slumped against the wall. Critical systems failing. Immediate repair required.

The faint glow of her eyes dimmed as she prepared for the inevitable confrontation. For now, survival was her only directive.
