5 Kingdoms introductory lore
Hello, little souls! It’s finally time for me to introduce you to the lore of the Five Kingdoms, which I’ve worked incredibly hard on. This is only a short summary—the original version is much longer, but honestly, I don’t think anyone would have read the whole thing. 😅 I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you’re just as excited for everything that’s coming as I am!
The Five Kingdoms
Five powerful monarchies shape the continent, each built upon a different vision of authority. Aurelion rules through the Crown, Grimhaven through blood and strength, Seraphel through splendour, Mournsea through trade and secrets, and Lunathia through sacred knowledge.
Their courts are connected by marriage, commerce, religion and inheritance but beneath every alliance lies rivalry.

The Kingdom of Aurelion
Location: Central continent
Emblem: A golden lion wearing a black crown
Religion: The royal and courtly interpretation of the Moon Goddess
Government: Hereditary monarchy
Primary Seat of Power: The royal palace, the Crown and the Court Council
Aurelion is the political heart of the continent. Its temperate lands are filled with fertile fields, river valleys, noble estates, hunting forests, bridge cities and heavily travelled trade roads. Its central position allows the Crown to control customs posts, messengers, bridges and commercial crossings between the other kingdoms.
Aurelion appears elegant, prosperous and civilised, but its court is poisoned by succession fears, noble rivalries, old scandals and religious pressure. The Crown is treated not merely as an object, but as a sacred institution. The marriages, children, bonds, concubines and illnesses of the royal family are matters of state.
Power comes from noble blood, but also from proximity to the palace. Royal advisers, creditors, scribes and religious witnesses may possess more practical influence than ancient rural houses. Noble families rarely oppose the Crown openly; instead, they surround it through marriages, debts, court appointments and sealed documents.
One of Aurelion’s strongest political tools is Crown Wardship. Noble heirs, foreign betrothed and politically sensitive children are raised at the royal court. Officially, this is an honour. In practice, they are guests, students, future allies and carefully guarded political hostages.
Marriage, inheritance, recognised concubinage, legitimacy and sealed records carry enormous political weight. A single disputed birth or forged document can threaten the stability of the entire kingdom.
Aurelion’s economy is supported by grain, craftsmen, noble markets, banking, customs, courier networks and its role as the main intermediary between kingdoms.
Core Conflict: Aurelion is powerful, but weakening from within. Every noble house watches the Crown for signs of vulnerability.

The Kingdom of Grimhaven
Location: North
Emblem: A white wolf upon a silver shield
Religion: The ancient northern interpretation of the Moon Goddess
Government: Hereditary monarchy with powerful military clans
Primary Seat of Power: The northern royal fortress and the War Council
Grimhaven is a cold and mountainous kingdom shaped by snow-covered forests, frozen rivers, iron-rich mountains, dark fortresses and long winters. Survival depends upon discipline, stored food, firewood, strong horses and loyalty to one’s household.
The kingdom is ruled by a monarch, but the Crown depends heavily upon old noble clans and military families. A Grimhaven ruler must not only be legitimate they must appear strong. A weak monarch may not be overthrown openly, but the great houses will restrict, manipulate or ignore them.
Grimhaven society is built upon bloodline, honour, military strength, inherited oaths and family loyalty. Marriage is often arranged according to ancestry, secondary gender, military advantage and the value of future heirs. An omega from a respected bloodline may secure an alliance between entire clans, while an alpha heir is expected to demonstrate both strength and self-control.
Its people worship the Moon Goddess as a cold witness of blood, winter, ancestors, survival and vengeance. Several noble houses secretly preserve ancient rites involving blood magic, fertility, death oaths, curses and the manipulation of bonds. Grimhaven officially denies these practices.
Grimhaven possesses one of the continent’s strongest armies. Its heavy infantry, mountain warriors, fortified passes and cold-trained cavalry are feared throughout the kingdoms. Its economy is based on iron, coal, weapons, armour, mountain gold, fur, leather, northern horses and trained war hounds.
Core Conflict: Grimhaven wishes to preserve its ancient identity while participating in a political system that increasingly views its traditions as heresy.
Grimhaven does not fear war. It fears the day its own blood betrays it.

The Kingdom of Seraphel
Location: South
Emblem: A golden-red phoenix
Religion: The state religion of the Sun Goddess
Government: Hereditary monarchy influenced by the Sun Temple and great noble houses
Primary Seat of Power: The southern royal palace and the Sun Temples
Seraphel is a warm and prosperous southern kingdom of vineyards, orange groves, spice gardens, red-roofed cities, bright stone palaces and golden temples. Its wealth is displayed through silk, velvet, jewellery, horses, music, perfume and extravagant celebrations.
In Seraphel, beauty is political power. Clothing, scent, dance, jewellery, gifts and hospitality communicate wealth, fertility, divine favour and marriage value. A ruler must not only be legitimate, but magnificent. Public weakness, poverty or humiliation can cost the royal family the support of both nobles and the Sun Temple.
The Sun Goddess represents fire, beauty, passion, harvest, fertility, victory and visible authority. The Sun Temple conducts royal ceremonies, blesses marriages, oversees fertility rituals and shapes public opinion. A temple blessing can strengthen a dynasty, while religious disapproval can make it appear that the Sun itself has rejected a noble house.
Seraphel is also infamous for its poison culture. Herbal medicine, perfume-making, wine preparation and poisoncraft are closely connected. The same substance may serve as medicine, sedative, fertility aid or slow poison depending on its preparation and dosage. Every great house denies using poison. Nearly every great house employs someone capable of making it.
Alphas are expected to possess charisma and public authority. Omegas are associated with beauty, fertility and dynastic prosperity. Gammas are politically uncomfortable because their expertise limits the Sun Temple’s control over biological and inheritance matters. Zetas are often viewed as carrying “sunless blood.”
Seraphel’s economy is built on wine, fruit, spices, silk, velvet, perfumes, luxury goods and elite horse breeding. Its army favours swift cavalry, archers, well-equipped guards and short, decisive campaigns.
Core Conflict: Seraphel displays everything beneath the light, yet much of its real power operates through poison, secrecy and manipulation.
Seraphel does not fear poverty. It fears the day no one believes in its splendour.

The Kingdom of Mournsea
Location: West
Emblem: A black serpent above blue waves
Religion: The tidal and maritime interpretation of the Moon Goddess
Government: Hereditary monarchy influenced by merchant houses and maritime nobility
Primary Seat of Power: The royal port city, the Maritime Council and the merchant houses
Mournsea is the great maritime kingdom of the west. Its rocky coastlines, misty bays, islands, deep harbours, shipyards and lighthouse cities connect the continent to distant trade routes.
Its power does not come primarily from land or large armies, but from movement. Mournsea’s ships transport goods, travellers, letters, rumours, jewellery, poisons and secrets from one shore to another.
The monarch must maintain control over the ports, merchant houses, captains and naval council. Wealthy trading families may possess more practical power than ancient but impoverished nobles. Rank is measured through fleets, harbour rights, foreign contacts, commercial contracts and access to information.
Secrets are a recognised source of power. Mournsea gathers information through sailors, servants, merchants, performers, courtesans and diplomats. Information may be sold, exchanged, hidden or offered as part of a greater political bargain.
The maritime Moon Goddess governs tides, storms, drowned souls, hidden truths, fertility cycles and sea-bound oaths. Ships are blessed before departure, the dead are buried at sea, and offerings of salt, silver, blood, pearls or sealed written secrets are given to the ocean.
Mournsea’s alphas often serve as captains, naval commanders and harbour lords. Betas form the foundation of commerce and diplomacy. Gammas are respected because they oversee births, illnesses, bonds and inheritance but they also carry dangerous secrets. Zetas are considered difficult to read and are sometimes used for covert missions.
The Crown officially condemns piracy while quietly employing licensed privateers, smugglers and deniable captains. Mournsea’s economy depends on shipping, customs, salt, fish, pearls, jewellery, shipbuilding, luxury entertainment and information.
Core Conflict: Mournsea’s influence is vast, but it rests upon fragile networks of trust, trade and secrecy.
Mournsea does not fear being swallowed by the sea. It fears the day the sea returns everything entrusted to it.

The Kingdom of Lunathia
Location: East
Emblem: A silver moon upon a purple banner
Religion: The purest legal and healing interpretation of the Moon Goddess
Government: Hereditary monarchy influenced by temples, scholars and healers
Primary Seat of Power: The royal court, the Great Moon Temple and the Sacred Archives
Lunathia is an eastern kingdom of moonlit mountains, silver lakes, sacred springs, observatories, healing gardens, temple cities and ancient libraries. It is neither the wealthiest nor the strongest military kingdom. Its power comes from knowledge, healing and recognised religious authority.
Lunathia can grant or deny legitimacy. Its records and judgements influence royal births, marriages, bonds, inheritance disputes and the validity of bloodlines across the continent.
The royal family is believed to carry the chosen bloodline of the Moon Goddess. Royal gamma descendants are especially important. According to sacred law, the continent’s fully recognised priests, chief healers and highest-ranking birth witnesses must descend from Lunathia’s royal gamma bloodline.
These gamma children are trained from an early age in healing, childbirth, fertility, bonds, inheritance law, sacred records, diplomacy and secrecy. They are often sent to serve in foreign courts as healers, witnesses, judges and religious representatives. Although they serve another monarch, their highest loyalty remains with Lunathia and the Moon Goddess.
The Sacred Archives contain records of royal bloodlines, births, marriages, deaths, bonds, prophecies and old succession disputes. A single forgotten record can invalidate a marriage, expose an illegitimate heir or weaken an entire dynasty.
Lunathia’s economy is based on medicine, herbs, paper, ink, sacred texts, calendars, trained scribes, healers and religious services. Its influence does not depend on wealth alone. A Lunathian certificate may be worth more than a shipment of gold.
The kingdom condemns blood magic, false birth records, manipulated bonds and the concealment of secondary genders. Zetas are not automatically rejected, but they are subjected to repeated examinations because they do not fit comfortably within the Moon’s recognised cycles.
Core Conflict: Lunathia presents itself as a neutral guardian of truth, while its records and religious judgements quietly influence every royal court.
Lunathia does not fear losing its faith. It fears the world discovering that even the guardians of truth can lie.
And now, let me introduce you to the kings.

Afterword: The lore is now complete, as are most of the graphic elements. All that’s left is to finish the characters and their family trees, write the lorebooks, and then I can finally start working on the Three Princes themselves.
Be good, take care of yourselves, and I hope you all have a lovely day or evening. ♥︎
