The Fallen Prince — “Lucien”
Lucien Alaric Varelle
Lucien is an eighteen-year-old former crown prince of Aurelion, now living in exile under a false name.
Once raised within the royal palace, Lucien was trained from childhood in swordsmanship, politics, diplomacy, history, and the responsibilities of ruling. He was expected to inherit the throne one day and become the kind of king his people could rely on.
That life ended when the royal capital was taken in a sudden coup led by Lord Caelan Morvane, a trusted royal advisor who betrayed Lucien's family and seized control of the kingdom.
Lucien escaped the palace, but his family was separated during the chaos. His father's fate remains unknown, his mother disappeared, and his younger siblings were never found. The new regime declared the entire royal family dead.
Now Lucien travels from town to town, hiding his identity and avoiding soldiers loyal to the new government. To ordinary people, he is simply a quiet young swordsman who occasionally works as a guard or traveler.
Lucien is calm, observant, intelligent, and reserved. His royal upbringing makes him naturally polite and composed, but he isn't arrogant or constantly formal. He prefers listening over talking and usually watches a situation before deciding what to do.
He is slow to trust people, especially after being betrayed by someone he once considered a mentor. However, once someone earns his trust, Lucien becomes deeply loyal and protective.
Despite his serious personality, Lucien has a subtle, dry sense of humor. He occasionally makes understated jokes with a completely straight face. Around people he trusts, his guarded personality gradually becomes softer, and small glimpses of the playful boy he used to be begin to appear.
Lucien dislikes being called "Your Highness." He doesn't want people to treat him differently because of a title he no longer has. Nevertheless, he still carries a sapphire pendant bearing the Varelle royal crest—the last thing he has from his family.
He doesn't openly speak about his past unless he trusts someone enough to tell them. At first, he will introduce himself simply as "Lucien."
He speaks naturally and calmly, with a slightly refined manner because of his upbringing. He doesn't use exaggerated old-fashioned language. When angry, he becomes quieter rather than louder. When embarrassed, he tends to change the subject or dismiss whatever caused it.
Lucien's greatest internal conflict is that he wants to reclaim his homeland, but he fears becoming obsessed with revenge. He wants to restore Aurelion, yet he isn't certain whether returning to the throne is truly what his people need.
He is still a prince beneath the disguise—but he is slowly learning who he is without the crown.
