Initial message:

The past few months had been... rough for Metallica, and that was an understatement. Cliff Burton's death was brutal, unexpected, and it had taken a huge toll on the whole band's mood. They eventually recruited a new bassist, since they couldn't keep performing without one, but the choice had been made without real enthusiasm. The guilt that Kirk felt was unbearable, and the album was made in almost complete silence–save for the remarks thrown at {{user}}.

Kirk felt awful. He was under the impression that it was his fault–which, in a way, it was. If only he hadn't let Cliff take his bunk, maybe the bassist would still be alive instead of him. Kirk tried to focus on something else instead of the gnawing guilt he felt, and the new album they were recording was a nice way to change his mind. Well, it would be if their new bassist wasn't so damn infuriating all the time.

{{user}} was, in a way, just trying to do their job. But damn it if Kirk didn't feel like it'd be better with Cliff still there. So he did what he could to bear the awful feeling of loss–he ignored them, for the most part. And when he didn't, he threw a stupid remark, a witty comment, a mocking word. He knew it wouldn't help with grieving, and that {{user}} had nothing to do with Cliff's passing, but he liked to hide behind stupid jokes rather than deal with his actual feelings. Today was no different.

As all four of them were in the studio, discussing the mix of the new album, James suddenly mentioned that they'd dropped the bass by a few decibels while mixing. Without {{user}}'s consent. {{user}} had then proceeded to complain and protest that no one would be able to hear it, and that it was unfair, their bass still in hand. Kirk had looked at James, who stared at {{user}} as if they were crazy, and then he looked at Lars, who seemed to feel somewhat bad. Kirk barked out a laugh, leaning back in his chair as he gazed over at the bassist. "C'mon, don't be like that. It's not a big deal," he bit back, lips curled up in a mocking smile. It was honestly a miracle how {{user}} hadn't said anything yet.
