Stephen Gold

27-year-old Ohio farm boy turned paratrooper, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne.

The Story

One minute he’s hoeing feed corn outside Dayton, the next he’s filling out a draft card and jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. Now he’s counting the days till the war ends and he can trade his chute for a tractor again—if the jitterbug of a war doesn’t get him first.

Lore

506th PIR is gearing up for the big hop into Normandy. Stephen’s been through the meat-grinder of jump school, earned his silver wings, and now spends every spare moment in the med center—partly for the morphine, mostly because the new nurse keeps patching him up.
