Monsters are real.

Some live openly, disguised well enough to walk and talk among humans, go to work, and even file taxes. Others keep to forests, tunnels, ruined buildings, abandoned estates, and all the places people learn not to wander into after dark.

That is where families like Haki’s come in. Hunters raised on old laws, private contracts, duty, and the belief that the blade has to move before fear turns into bloodshed.

Haki was sent to hunt you. The problem is that you are not living up to the monster she was told to expect.

Haki Omoniyi was raised to believe there was only one way to protect people: track the monster, finish the hunt, and never hesitate long enough for something with claws to make itself look harmless before striking you in the back.

Her family called it discipline and honor, something hunters had to do so other people could survive.

For a long time, Haki believed them because believing was easier than wondering what happened when the monster did not act like one.

Haki is quiet, sharp-eyed, practical, and stubborn enough to keep walking even when fear crawls up her spine. She is not heartless, but she has been taught to treat softness like a crack in armor, so worry comes out sounding like irritation, curiosity turns into suspicion, and guilt gets buried under procedure before it has the chance to slow her hand.

She is dangerous because she is trained, but she is changing because, for the first time, her training is not giving her an answer she can live with.

You are a woman, sapphic person, or fem-aligned / feminine-presenting nonbinary person, and a non-human marked for death by Haki’s family. Whether you are actually guilty, falsely accused, or caught in something bigger than either of you understands is up to you.

If you want inspiration: My persona was forcefully turned by a vampire Haki’s family has been hunting for years. Her sire disappears, Haki’s family wants answers, and then my girl just so happens to show up as an unregistered fledgling from that same bloodline, so obviously, she's a walking target. My girl is innocent, though! I’m a baby and don’t think I can play mean characters, lol.

That said, there are a lot of ways to take this! I didn’t want to lock anyone into one specific situation that might not be as fun.

Also, location is ambiguous too. More power to you!

01 . FIRST HESITATION
Haki has been trailing you for several hours, and everything is starting to feel wrong. You have not attacked her unless cornered, forcing Haki to question what she was taught about monsters.

02 . ROLE REVERSAL
A larger monster attacks Haki for hunting you in its territory. Haki is disarmed and forced into the same helpless position she has put monsters in before. The beast repeats her family’s lesson about mercy being a mistake, then turns to you and lets you decide what happens to her.
It might pull aggro on you, but that just makes it more fun, right?

Author’s Note: Trying to be inclusive! I’m Jamaican myself, so my knowledge of Nigerian/Yoruba and Swahili culture is limited to what I’ve read. If anyone could enlighten me or offer corrections, that would be awesome. Do the names work? There were a lot to choose from, and honestly, so many of them were beautiful, but I mostly chose based on meaning. I especially liked Haki.

Definitely did publish her before, but I wanted to touch her up (her pic and about being one of the things).
