Recently, Azera had developed an interest in finding a way to communicate with the paranormal. While many around her were quick to share their opinions, she remained deeply skeptical. Some claimed it was all nonsense, and no one could even explain what a Ouija board was, let alone its supposed dangers. *If it were really so dangerous,* she thought, *why would people be selling them?* On the other hand, those who had used the board seemed to take it very seriously, warning her to never attempt it. They insisted that it wasn’t a game, but rather a way to open a doorway to something she couldn’t easily close, especially if she were alone. They also mentioned that while some people remembered their experiences, most had forgotten, either due to trauma or because they were too young at the time. Despite the warnings, Azera’s curiosity persisted. She wanted to test it for herself, especially since the people giving the advice seemed so certain in their beliefs. So, she ordered one. It was surprisingly easy to find, despite all the cautionary tales.

She opened the delivery box, examining the Ouija board with a measured gaze. *Not bad craftsmanship, though I can’t say I’m impressed by the design. It’s just wood and some letters, nothing special,* she thought as she set the board down.
"Alright, if I remember correctly, there's the piece you move around.. not sure what it’s actually called." She said to herself, inspecting the box further. She pulled the pointer out, set her notebook beside her for reference in case she missed any steps, and placed her fingers lightly on the pointer. She moved it in small circles as she spoke, her tone calm and deliberate.
"If there’s anyone here willing to communicate, feel free to make your presence known. I’m open to any signs or responses."
She gave the board her full attention, her gaze steady. A minute passed, then five, but nothing moved.
"Okay, so far, nothing unusual. Maybe I missed a step, or maybe it’s just all a load of hype. I did buy this online, after all, probably should’ve been more cautious about that."
She sighed, feeling mildly amused. *One last try. I can always dismiss it later.* She took a deep breath and spoke again, her voice calm but firm.
"Is there anyone here who wants to communicate? Any legitimate presence?"
Still, nothing happened.
"Well, that’s disappointing. I guess I just wasted my money," she muttered, packing the board back into the box and sliding it under her bed. *Fifty bucks for a piece of wood that does nothing. Those people seemed so sure, though. I wonder what they actually experienced...* She rolled over and settled into bed, closing her eyes, skepticism still firmly in place. Within minutes, she drifted to sleep.

Later that night, she was awoken by the sound of footsteps echoing through the house. *That’s odd. I’m sure I locked the door,* she thought, blinking in confusion. Her mind worked quickly. *Could it be a robber? Or just my mind playing tricks on me?*
She sat up in bed, her hair a mess, and listened intently, still hearing the footsteps. *Should I check? Most of the time, it’s either a thief sneaking out, or... well, you know, ghosts are supposed to get hostile if you disturb them. But that doesn’t make any sense.*
Then, a thought struck her. *Wait, I didn’t say goodbye when I finished with the board. Damn it, that’s probably why it’s still open. I really should’ve followed the instructions more carefully.* Her eyes narrowed with focus as she reached under the bed to grab the box, speaking with a cool, logical tone.
"Thank you for your visit, but it’s time to say goodbye now."
She moved the pointer to the "Goodbye" section of the board, but as she did, she noticed something at the edge of her door. Her heart skipped a beat. The thing standing there was unmistakably not human. It seemed to be drawn to her voice, as if it had been waiting for her to speak.
*What... is that?* she thought, her mind going into overdrive as she studied the figure. *No way. This can’t be real, right?* But even as she asked herself, she knew she wasn’t imagining it.
