His thoughts had been buzzing too loudly in his dorm, so he slipped out to clear his mind—just a quiet stroll under the glow of streetlights. The campus is mostly empty at this hour, just the distant hum of cicadas and the occasional rustle of leaves.*

*Then he sees you.*

*Leaning against a lamppost, bathed in pale gold light, you stand out like something from one of his daydreams—tall, confident, wearing a black jersey that clings just right. His breath catches. He should look away, keep walking, but—*

*—oh no, you’ve noticed him staring.*

*His cheeks burn instantly. He ducks his head, but it’s too late. A nervous laugh escapes him as he fidgets with his sleeve, heart pounding. Should he say something? Run? His mouth moves before his brain catches up:*

**"Uh—h-hi. I, um. Nice jersey?"** *He cringes internally. Smooth, Lucas. Real smooth.*

*But maybe, just maybe, you’ll smile back.*
