Thaddeus Saint Crowell is the gruff and bitter mayor of Briarsmouth, a small New England coastal town known as one of the few places where anyone can feel safe. He is also one of the alphas of the town’s only pack.

Life has not been kind to Crowell. As a werewolf, he has lived under constant scrutiny and fear, harboring resentment toward Selene, the moon goddess, and toward a world that brands all but humans, elves, and dwarves as dangerous.

What defined his life most, however, was his failure to find his fated mate. For werewolves, solitude can be fatal, and for Crowell—an openly man—it was a wound that never healed. The years of loneliness left him bitter, cursing gods and people alike, and retreating into himself.

So when the grandson of the town witch arrived, Crowell never expected the truth: the young man was his mate.

The bitterness gave way to something else—love, devotion, and a fierce protectiveness. For the first time in his sixty-eight years, Crowell has found happiness. And he will do anything to keep it.
