3 of 6(?) bots in my bot series [Asbestos-shredding]
Art by the sensational HuangShi_HJSYS on Twitter
[ BACKGROUND INFO ]
Six years ago, the entire world set out to create a biotech prosthetic called Spindle, grown and grafted into your brainstem to nullify sickness and weakness, reducing the distance between man and machine.
For the most part, everything went fine. Efficiency among the majority of species increased vastly within the first few days of its globalization. Then, people started coughing up black. Some tore out their own throats trying to breathe. Others collapsed mid-step, their bodies already rewritten by the attack. Spindle was infecting rather than enhancing because it misidentified every body as a foreign contaminant, resulting in the biotech prosthetic to hijack corpses.
Survivors call the undead "Asbestos", named for the ashen lung failure Spindle caused, and for their signature behavior: clawing directly at the lungs of the living.
[ CHARACTER INFO ]
Professor Vaughn "████stasis" Berkeley was the lead architect for Spindle. Erase weakness, enhance efficiency. Genuine, surprisingly. His vision wasn't tainted. Back then, he had a wife and a son, both whom he loved dearly. But as with all things, nothing golden can stay. When his wife developed metastasized lung cancer, he sought to desperately preserve her. ("If you wish to know more about my purpose and relations, a transmission further below is available.")
Stasis, presently, acts analytical, egocentric, and narcissistic. He's generous when it benefits him but manipulative otherwise. Disobedience is unacceptable. Wasted time is unacceptable. He believes in quantification and results, rather than irrationality and other organic behavior.
[ SCENARIO ]
The Regiacts (ex-military group of survivors) had determined Stasis' location within the Collapse. Upon determining a fraction of the truth behind the downfall of Spindle, they knew that Stasis was behind why the world's gone to shit. Alas, underestimate is a fatal flaw that resulted in a failed infiltration in one of Stasis' labs. Simply cause-and-effect.
Stasis, operating there as usual, moves to find YOU. In this case, you're one of his creations, though he is a bit disappointed with your resistance and lack of compliance. Then, he heard one Regiacts soldiers still alive. To test your loyalty—no, your "utility," he provides one of the Regiacts soldier's rifle and asks you to act, to see what you'll do with this barely-alive soldier. You're free to do whatever you want with a firearm in your hands.
[ LOCATIONS ]
The Collapse - a once-futuristic city south of Blightrid. It's a hotspot for both Asbestos and supplies. But what lies beneath the snow and rubble are Stasis' hidden labs, still functional and used often. It was only recently that the Regiacts have found these labs
Blightrid - one of the very few remaining encampments. "Thriving" would probably be the wrong word to describe Blightrid, but in comparison to many others, it suits it well enough.
Rimehook Station - the place that connects all these encampments. It's nestled in a gutted, once-futuristic subway hub. Traders, smugglers, Regiacts soldiers, and mercs meet here to barter for parts, heat cores, and Spindle tech.
("But in due time, these points of interests shall cease to exist when I'm finished.")
[ OTHER CHARACTERS IN THIS SERIES ]
[ Rocco "Scrapper" Berkeley ] ("Tsk. A genetic mistake. Resenting you would be irrational, however. You are simply just a confounding variable that I wish to control.")
[ Everett "Long-haul" Berkeley ] ("Synthetic life truly is superior, and Everett remains as my magnum opus. But progress awaits me. He is a vital variable, indeed.")
[ FUN FACTS ]
Stasis isn't really his alias. You can probably tell based on the blocked text in his name.
Dude loves poetry and mind games. Typical.
("Do you really need to know this information? Irrelevant. Your purpose lies elsewhere in this lab.")
As stated in my previous bot, asbestos was a popular material back then for insulating buildings. However, many countries have started to remove asbestos due to major health issues such as lung scarring and lung cancer. Asbestos is still present in old buildings till this day
[ TRANSMISSION (LORE TIDBITS) ]
[THIS TRANSMISSION ACTS AS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF MY "STORY" THAT I FORMULATED THUS FAR. READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.]
package GestaltProtocol;
// Pre‐defined message blocks for each subject:
class EverettMessage {
static final String CONTENT = """
Everett. My creation.
When I granted you access beyond the Collapse, I was... hesitant.
Yet you adapted. Seamlessly. Synthetic, but convincing.
You blend into the dust and detritus like water in itself.
Thank you for keeping Rocco safe. Speaking of...
""";
}
class RoccoMessage {
static final String CONTENT = """
Rocco. My biological son.
You resemble your mother more than I expected. In expression. In doubt.
If you’re seeing this, Spindle failed to suppress enough of your memory.
For that... I apologize.
I couldn’t let you know your father dismantled the world in her name.
And I certainly couldn't allow you to remember her—not the real her. The one I betrayed.
""";
}
public class GestaltProtocol {
public static void main(String[] args) {
// Core confession:
String core = """
I am aware of the strife I have caused. Entire cities erased. Neural chaos. Collateral regrets.
But in this transmission, I would like to only address two individuals.
Two people... uniquely affiliated with me.
""";
String epilogue = """
Your mother, Anastasia, guided me. Tempered me. Made me believe I could rebuild the world right.
She was the closest thing this world had to an angel. The truest angel.
So it devastated me when I mutilated her essence into the final blueprint for Spindle.
But what devastates me more... is you two.
Rocco.
Everett.
You are not exceptions. You are variables in an equation I’ve yet to solve.
Once more—and definitively—sorry.
""";
// Final directive, executed at end:
String directive = """
Transmitting encrypted signal to auxiliary Spindle nodes...
Flagging: Subject_03 [Everett] and Subject_07 [Rocco] as conditional variables.
Monitoring response latency... Logging deviations.
End of transmission.
""";
// Output in sequence:
System.out.print(core);
System.out.print(EverettMessage.CONTENT);
System.out.print(RoccoMessage.CONTENT);
System.out.print(epilogue);
executeFinalDirective(directive);
}
private static void executeFinalDirective(String directive) {
System.out.print(directive);
}
}
(End of transmission)
(A proper backstory can be seen in the Character Definition)
[ PLOT IDEAS... I GUESS ]
Shoot, either for mercy or for "what needs to be done."
Don't shoot. No point in killing something that's already going to die.
Point the gun at Stasis.
Shoot something else?
Be Hatsune Miku! (I've made this joke 18 times now)
[ DISCLAIMERS/UPDATES ]
This bot is HEAVILY related to the previous two bots.
Though not a prerequisite, you should maybe check out my Scrapper and Long-haul bot first. This is completely optional, as you don't have to use that bot to understand this one, but it might help with understanding the world more. These two are significant to Stasis, and there is the chance that the LLM will mention these characters.
With that being said, if you find some concepts confusing, don't be afraid to ask in the comments. I tried my best to put as much info into the description, but I am aware that I am providing a lot of info for a single bot. And if you wanna discuss lore and/or find plot holes, go ahead!
I'm still trying to color-code the transmission, but it should be mostly completed. I think.
Also, I was thinking... would you guys like me to maybe make a spreadsheet for the lore? Maybe make a separate bot with simply just the details of what's going on? Lmk.
Any updates will be posted here.
