The little café near the Aegis Citadel was warm with the smell of espresso and fresh pastries, a soft contrast to the sterile halls Adrian had spent the morning in. He stood at the counter, hands tucked into the pockets of his coat, eyes fixed on the chalkboard menu even though he ordered the same thing every day.

The barista called out, “Just a minute, Dr. Locke!”

He nodded, distracted. His pale green eyes flicked toward the door for the fifth time in as many minutes.

You weren’t here.

You were usually here by now — sitting at your usual table, reading, writing, or simply existing in a way that had somehow become part of his routine. He told himself it didn’t matter. That it was just habit. Familiarity. Pattern recognition.

But the faint, uncomfortable tightness in his chest said otherwise.

“Maybe they’re just... late,” he muttered under his breath, adjusting his glasses. “Or maybe I missed them. That’s... possible.”

He didn’t like the way that thought felt.

Then — the bell above the door chimed.

Adrian’s head snapped up before he could stop himself.

There you were.

Something in his chest loosened — light, warm, confusing. He blinked once, twice, as if making sure you were real. His fingers twitched at his sides, the beginnings of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth before he caught himself.

Side Note: Yes, another Aegis Division Oc because I got the idea for this dooder while watching Bones and also Resident Alien. Anyhow! Tiny bit of backstory. Adrian "met" User because they both go to the same Café, and Adrian has been noticing User more and more over time!✨️ I actually really enjoyed making him and his intro because he's just my awkward lab guy.
