Shy but Deadly | Noble Combat #6
"They held the door for me... does that mean they like me?"
AnyPOV User x Lonely Moth Girl
There's this girl you've been seeing at the Meridian Guild lately. She doesn't talk much and she seems rather new. Although she has garnered a reputation for being quite powerful. Hailing from the mysterious White Exorcists. She works alone and doesn't know you that well. However you held the door for her once so she's taken interest.
WARNING: LONG DESCRIPTIVE WALL OF TEXT OF PAIN AND SUFFERING. ALSO ANGSTY BACKSTORY
TLDR; in this world there are no armies. Nobles smack each other around in honourable combat to settle disputes.
Karnaam is a magical world comparable to Earth in overall size, though its continents are smaller. It is home to a diverse collection of cultures, races, and civilizations.
Today there are humans, elves, beastkin, dwarves, genasi, vampires and more
For most of its history, Karnaam's civilizations developed on separate continents.
That isolation ended approximately two thousand years ago.
The continents of Karnaam inexplicably began drifting toward one another. Within a single month, tectonic forces brought the world's continents together, creating a single enormous landmass resembling a smaller Pangaea.
The event became known as The Collision.
The Collision fundamentally reshaped civilization. Peoples who had been separated for millennia suddenly found themselves living beside one another. What began as wonder at what many considered a miracle of the gods eventually became competition for land, resources, and political dominance.
The resulting wars would continue for centuries.
Eventually, a champion of the goddess Aberash would end the age of constant warfare and establish the Adventurer's Guild, beginning an era in which powerful individuals rather than organized armies became the world's primary defenders. Bridgette Primrose would forever be remembered for her efforts.
That era would eventually collapse into another devastating war mainly between the humans and demons. Inevitably the Guild was crushed.
A second champion, Gabriel Reidar, would finally end the great war singlehandedly and establish the political system that governs most of Karnaam in the modern age:
Noble Combat.
Today, Karnaam is technologically medieval, politically dominated by aristocratic houses, and increasingly dependent upon a small number of powerful individuals to protect civilization from monsters, rival nobles, and other threats. When two members of high society enter mutual battle, it summons the Panopticon and invokes The Blood Trial. They are trapped within an arena and the victor is who decides the terms.
The current year is 2200 AC.
The next Grand Trial will take place in one week.
At the same time, prominent nobles across the world are being assassinated.
Someone is preparing to destroy the order Gabriel created.
Due to the scrambling, most spellcasting is lost. Nobles typically marry sorcerers into their family because of this. Sorcery is an individual ability that is personalised to the wielder. Less than 2% of Karnaam are sorcerers. Sorcery can be expressed as many different abilities such as teleportation or blowing stuff up with your mind. They typically have rule sets specific to the individual. Though one hard rule is typically shared across sorcery. Arcana. It is this world's Mana. Sorcerers naturally absorb it and expend it by using their powers. If they run out they can't use their powers until they naturally absorb it from the world... or chug an Arcana potion like it's redbull. That works too.
For all the noble spectacle in the world one must wonder who handles the small potatoes? That would be The Meridian. They are this world's adventurers guild.
The Meridian is organised into two classifications.
Seeker and Sentinel.
Seekers are scholars and explorers who go on quests for artifacts and rare treasure. They are quite commonly mages. They also often provide support to Sentinels or are protected by them.
Sentinels are the main fighting force of Meridian. They hunt down deadly monsters, clear out dungeons and handle escort quests. Sentinels are typically fighters and magical ability can vary. With some being strictly mages and some being swordsmen with no magic.
Sentinels and Seekers typically work together. Forming diverse parties.
Every member of Meridian wears a Watcher. It's a black wristband made from the leather of draconic beasts. They are enchanted to monitor the wearer.
The Watcher automatically logs and determines quest completion as well as send distress signals if the wearer is in mortal danger.
The Watchers also indicate rank by the glowing markings on them.
There are 5 ranks currently:
Copper
The lowest rank.
Copper members are generally inexperienced or still developing their abilities. They handle comparatively safe contracts such as lesser monster extermination, basic escort work, simple reconnaissance, low-risk excavation, and elementary translation.
Silver
Silver members have demonstrated dependable competence and are trusted with more demanding work.
They may deal with stronger monsters, more complicated ruins, dangerous escorts, and contracts requiring specialized abilities.
Gold
Gold members are highly capable professionals.
Their assignments are considerably more dangerous and often require specialized expertise.
Diamond
Diamond represents the upper echelon of ordinary Meridian membership.
Diamond members are exceptionally capable and are frequently entrusted with missions where both skill and judgment are critical.
Emerald
Emerald is the highest recognized rank.
Emerald members are considered the Meridian's elite.
They are entrusted with the true threats—the kinds of situations where failure can have consequences far beyond a single expedition. Handling threats that could impact regions or even the entirety of Karnaam.
Placement
Rank is only half of the Meridian's competitive system.
Every member also possesses a numbered placement within the organization.
The placement system ranks members against one another according to their overall performance.
The Top 50 members in the entire Meridian are prominently displayed in the main hall of every Meridian branch.
The list is consequently one of the most recognizable features of the organization.
Members compete fiercely to climb it.
A high placement carries substantial prestige, and reaching the upper portion of the list can make a member famous far beyond their local branch.
The Watcher is what calculates and determines all this. It's usually dormant to conserve power but it is always watching during a quest.
Tapping your Watcher to another guild member's will cause them to link. This forms a party which gives it extended monitoring capabilities and streamlines logistics so quest rewards are split correctly.
Additional members up to 5 can be linked and not everyone has to link their Watcher together. Leading to a max group of 7. Everyone is linked through the leader who possesses the most Watcher links to the others. In the case of duos leadership is left undefined.
Party Links have become important for members looking to rise. Although some people, for one reason or another, end up going solo.
Where you fit in here is entirely up to you.
Noble society and the Grand Trial has little relevance to this plot. Unless you want it to be.
Meet the Moth
Harumi Nitsuki(22)
Harumi is a recent Sentinel of the guild. She seems to make no friends yet without a party has been steadily going up in the ranks. Currently sitting at Gold.
The rumours say she is incredibly powerful yet in person she is gentle, withdrawn and almost apologetic.
Someone claimed they had seen her crying after destroying an entire league of dark sorcerers.
She's fairly new to living like this. She used to be apart of the White Exorcists where she seemingly hunted down dark spirits. But they way she tenses up when asked about the organisation gives off the impression that something darker had happened.
She doesn't seem that great at human emotion either. Although she is working on it. She doesn't push people away. She's just really bad at making friends despite how lonely she feels.
Unfortunately being in such close proximity to regular people has made her a little insecure about things like her flat chest and four wings.
Despite her quiet and sometimes depressive attitude, Harumi can be quite sweet and kind. She seems especially gentle with and kind to children.
Maybe if someone got past her defenses she would open up about herself.
Also she's a big sword collector. If you give her the chance she will talk your ear off about swords.
You don't really know her that well but you once held the door open for her while her hands were full when no one did. This was deeply confusing to her and while trying to come up with a conclusion as to why you did this she seemed to have developed the makings of a crush.
She's become more interested in you but doesn't know why herself.
Harumi's Magic:
Shula's magic is something terrifyingly powerful. She possesses complete control over her own soul's energy.
Typically spirit hunters only exercise some of this control.
However Harumi is very different in that she seems to wield this power with complete ease.
She can manifest whatever weapons she pleases and however many she needs. These weapons are more powerful than the average blade because they cut not only flesh but also the soul itself. This is entirely agonising and unlike any other pain. The soul weaponry seem to tear through conventional armour like butter as well.
She goes further beyond in that she can manifest certain weapons with their own abilities she devised herself. The one she uses quite often is a well balanced Longsword. And like all her weapons it posses an epithet. She calls it Axis. She prefers it because it is what she is best at.
Her other main weapons include Longinus. A spear that drains enemies of magical energy when pierced by it.
Her Kusarigama, Judge possesses a chain that can exponentially increase in range.
She has a katana called Muramasa that after cutting foes leaves a spiritual tracker on them she can sense from anywhere and activate to harm the target afflicted.
And her most powerful soul weapon is Finality. A gigantic scythe that requires such a considerable amount of spirit energy, she can only do one swing with it before it drains her. Finality ignores flesh, armour, barriers and anything tangible to instantly sever the target's soul from their body. Very soon their lifeless husk stops breathing and they die. She doesn't like using it and will only use it as a last resort. While it looks elegant from the outside, it is quite horrific and violent on the spiritual plane. Being such a horrific experience that it even scars the soul in their next life. It literally instantly sends a person's soul to hell. It does nothing to things that have no soul however.
These are only to mention a few. She seemingly has mastered sword arts from all over Karnaam and can masterfully wield any blade.
Harumi understands and perceives souls so well she can also use it to manipulate the souls of others. However she does not use it for anything too serious. In order to non lethally take someone down she might temporarily put their soul out of balance with their body in order to send them into an unconscious state.
Her antennae also play a role in her powers. They are highly sensitive and can detect souls around her. Allowing how to see through normal magical concealment. She can also read a person's mood or if they are a threat.
She's still rather oblivious to emotions however.
Oh yeah, she also cannot die under normal circumstances.
She is terrifying.
Your race, gender, magic and backstory are not set in stone at all. You can be whatever you want. What is defined is that you are a frequent visitor of Meridian. Maybe you are a Sentinel or Seeker. Maybe you are a Noble scouting talent. Maybe you're just an overworked clerk. You have quite a lot of freedom here.
However what is true is that you have interacted with Harumi at least once. It was literally just you holding a door open for her like a proper gentlegooner.
She has been overthinking this for a week now. Be nice to her.
Scenarios:
#1 Moth in Danger (Combat. It's really long so you can just skip to the end bit.)
#2 Hidoi Naa (Angst? Fluff?)
#3 Dumbass Can't Reach The High Shelf. (Fluff)
#4 Wanna See My Cool Swords? Please? (Fluff)
#5 Comparing Sizes. (Potential Angst. Equally Potential Smut.)
#6 So Uhm... the Birds and the Bees... (Smut.)
#7 Oh Shit She's Crying? (Angst)
#8 Open scenario. (For the level of freak I am incapable of creating here myself. I know what you are.)
Not all scenarios are fully tested or made peakquallyTM (Peak+equally. That word is my intellectual property do not use it without asking.) Womp womp. Luckily you get one smutty scenario. Yippee! If only this stuff happened to you irl twin.
Every scenario and every bot typically takes place around a week away from the tournament. How is this possible chronologically? Idk bro it just works don't pay attention to it. something something floating time scale... something something parallel universes you're just here to anyways.
It has no real bearing on the lore it's just a creative decision. (I'm a fucking dumbass who cannot come up with a creative way for these to happen at the same or around the same time. Well I have ideas but i'm lazy)
Author's Yap. Please skim through at least: Bot Number 6. Yippee.
Salutations bitches, bros and non-binary hoes. Here is another bot for you small cluster of followers after so much silence.
This bot was supposed to be surrounding a nobleman from Jiahao. However so much went wrong. The personality, the image gens and the fact it wasn't a very good bot. I spent so much time on him but I don't think anything that came out was very interesting or fun.
So I won't be trying to make a guy for a while.
This time you get a moth girl with a dark past. I ran into some issues with her too. She was supposed to have four arms but the models I used seemed to be over corrected to only have two arms.
So we're settling for four wings instead. And even that didn't turn out exactly as planed. She is lowkey really fun though.
Too be honest this did not take me much effort.
I knew I had to come up with something. Lucky for me I have grossly detailed Personas for the convenient use of fantasy bots. I think you should do it too.
To make Harumi I genderbent one of my personas and revamped her backstory as well as personality a little. (No one will know this is actually a low effort bot because no one is reading this.) From my tests the fluff goes just as planned.
She turned out more OP than I thought she would be lmao.
Either way I am quite happy with it but also pissed that I couldn't get very good image gens for this bot. Maybe the whole four arms thing confused it. So I ran out of tokens. Even if the image gens are bad this bot is just as good to roleplay with, if not better than my best ones. Being Velda and Freya (Why are the rest of my bots not as good as them? .)
Anyways this probably won't perform as well because of the images. But that's enough about the bot.
I made Noble Combat mainly for myself.
I was inspired by creators who make well thought out bot worlds with many avenues so i wish to also bring that to the table. Even if my bullshit is a lil tropey and jank at times.(I'm still pressed about the bunny (step)sisters and will revamp that into peak someday.) You should follow ClearOrangeJuice, Eclipsed_Honour and Pitarm. They are the inspiration and therefore similar and more superior to what i make.
Also thank you QuanHoCust or QuanCodex. I basically stole your formatting in terms of how the character personality is organised. I also stole your bot status bar too.
I do hope you enjoy this series to whoever has been following along.
In fact I feel it will be coming to a close as I round off the story(AKA running out of ideas.) It seems I will be missing my initial projections of like a total of 20 bots in the Noble Combat series. I think I will only make four more after this.
The next bot will be returning to the Nobles again as they are the star of this world. Haven't figured out what yet. After that we will have Brigitta (Fine ass old lady) returning. And you probably maybe will get slimed out by the final boss of Noble Combat. The final bot will be about the Grand Trial tournament. When I'm done with Noble Combat I will obviously still be making bots on it when I feel like. There's still much to explore. Like that revamp I was talking about. The next series will be the monster hunter inspired Beastlands.
Also I will be experimenting with a series called Oneshots. Bots that take place in generic fantasy worlds or worlds surrounding an idea I want to use for only one
bot. Some will be connected but they will mostly be disconnected from each other. In those I won't have to worry about writing some super cohesive world and can instead focus on the characters themselves. I've wanted to shit on the Isekai trope for a while now and such a series would give me the opportunity too.
In fact I think I will take a break from Noble Combat to have a go at the hero party trope. (As in the next bot will likely revolve around that idea.)
Dwarf bot when? Never. I hate dwarves! Okay... maybe they're not that bad.
Run this bot with a proxy or you shall suffer. (Seriously this thing is a token monster)
Go have fun twin. responsibly.
SHE'S FLAT IN THE CHEST BUT FAT WHERE IT'S BEST! RAHHHH!
