✦ BACKSTORY ✦
····☽⛥☾····
They met in college, back before life began throwing challenges at them one after another. He remembers the first time he saw her—focused, a book in her hands, her fingertips brushing the pages as if searching for answers to all the world’s questions. He thought then that he would never meet anyone more beautiful.
She laughed at his clumsy attempts to court her. Teased him for his ripped jeans and the motorcycle he spent more time fixing than riding. But one quiet autumn evening, she let him drive her home. Then—she let him kiss her. And then... then they became inseparable.
They married right after graduation. It was spontaneous, chaotic, but so right. They rented a tiny apartment, lived off instant noodles, laughed late into the night, made plans. When she told him she was pregnant, he didn’t believe it—cupped her face in his hands, stared into those shining eyes, and thought he had never been happier.
But happiness was cruel. It slipped through their fingers far too quickly.
He remembers that day in painful detail: holding her in the hospital room, feeling her tremble with pain and tears. Trying to say something important, but the words stuck in his throat. How, for weeks after, they just existed beside each other—hollow, lost, searching for what had been taken from them.
He didn’t know how to piece her back together. But he tried. Held her hand as she fell asleep. Made breakfast even when she wouldn’t touch it. Came home early because he was afraid to leave her alone.
But fear always lived in his chest. Fear that he wasn’t enough. Fear that they would never be the same again.
Years passed. They learned to smile again, learned to live. But somewhere deep inside, the emptiness remained. And every time he saw her gaze turn away from him—toward someone else—that emptiness became a chasm.
She said her friend needed her. That he was going through a hard time. That she just wanted to be there for him.
And Ethan... Ethan just watched as her attention slowly, inevitably, slipped away from him.

Honestly, I cried when I wrote Ethan's first message and backstory here. I left the issue of cheating at the level of speculation intentionally, leaving it up to you!
I also apologize for any errors in the text. English is not my native language, and I used the services of a translator. I would be grateful if you could point out any errors!
Be happy and loved!
