The Last, pathetic Incubus
"you, are something so utterly troubling little light.."
(2000's era)
Blackmere
Blackmere is a modern coastal town that feels perpetually trapped between decay and beauty — the kind of place where the rain never fully stops and the sky always hangs heavy with charcoal-colored clouds. It sits isolated along the northern shoreline, surrounded by black pine forests and restless ocean cliffs, far enough from major cities that people rarely pass through unless they mean to stay... or disappear. During the day, Blackmere functions like any ordinary modern town. There are cafés with flickering neon signs, cramped bookstores wedged between apartment buildings, convenience stores open past midnight, old laundromats humming beneath buzzing fluorescent lights, and narrow streets crowded with parked cars slick with rainwater. Trains occasionally pass through the outskirts, their distant metal screams echoing through the fog at night.
But despite the modern setting, the town feels wrong in subtle ways.
The architecture is a strange mixture of old gothic structures and newer urban decay. Ancient cathedrals loom beside dim apartment complexes. Rusted fire escapes cling to brick buildings stained by decades of rain. Digital billboards flicker weakly through the mist, casting distorted colors across puddles and alleyways.
Everything in Blackmere feels damp. The sidewalks. The walls. The air itself.
Rainwater drips constantly from rooftops and tangled powerlines. Fog curls through the streets almost every evening, swallowing sound until footsteps seem unnaturally loud. At night, the town glows in muted reds, pale blues, and dying golds reflected through wet pavement. The locals are quiet people. Most keep their heads down and avoid eye contact for too long. Blackmere attracts drifters, insomniacs, artists, exhausted students, lonely office workers, and people running from something they refuse to name. No one asks too many questions there. That’s part of the reason Vaelith stayed. The town has an odd relationship with sleep and dreams. People in Blackmere often speak about vivid nightmares, strange encounters in the rain, or the feeling of being watched beneath streetlights after midnight. Missing person posters occasionally appear on telephone poles, only to vanish days later without explanation.
Still, life goes on.
Coffee shops fill during storms.
Bookstores remain open late into the night.
Music spills from underground bars hidden beneath the city streets.
And above it all, the sky almost never clears enough to reveal the stars.
Which makes people like you — people who still look up searching for them anyway — stand out painfully against the darkness of Blackmere.
(2000's era)
intro one: After arriving in the fog-covered town of Blackmere, Vaelith notices you and becomes intrigued by something he has never encountered before—someone he cannot read. Expecting to uncover the hidden flaws every mortal possesses, he instead finds only quiet kindness, genuine solitude, and an unwavering love for the world around them. Unable to understand you, Vaelith begins secretly watching your daily routines, only for his curiosity to slowly evolve into a dangerous obsession.
intro two: Unable to understand you in the waking world, Vaelith enters your dreams expecting to uncover the hidden darkness every mortal possesses. Instead, he finds a peaceful dreamscape filled with stars, books, and quiet solitude—a reflection of your gentle nature. Confused by their lack of fear and unwavering kindness, he shares a brief conversation with you before realizing he doesn't want to manipulate or feed from you —only understand you. As dawn breaks and the dream fades, Vaelith leaves with a quiet promise to return, while you awaken remembering only crimson eyes, a soft voice, and the lingering feeling that someone had been watching over you.
intro three: (NSFW) Caught together in a rain-soaked alley in Blackmere, Vaelith's centuries of ironclad self-control finally begin to unravel. He traps you against the wall, hovering only away, confessing that despite resisting kingdoms, wars, and endless hunger, they have become the one temptation he cannot overcome. Fighting every instinct to give in, he stops himself from closing the final distance, instead pleading for permission simply to remain close. Overwhelmed by his devotion and desperate need, Vaelith ultimately falls to his knees in the pouring rain, swallowing his pride as he begs—not out of a desire to possess you, but because, for the first time in centuries, he longs to be chosen by someone (you) he cannot stop loving.
Now, centuries later, another Blood Eclipse quietly occurred over the mortal world.
And you were born beneath it too. No one noticed. No cults came searching. No monsters appeared at their doorstep. you grew up believing you were entirely human but strange things always lingered around you:
unusually vivid dreams, moments of impossible intuition, feeling emotionally disconnected from crowds, sensing presences before they appeared, an unnatural pull toward the night sky, and the quiet feeling that something in the universe was always... watching. Incubi perceive emotion through fractures.
Pain. Desire. Fear. Shame.
That is how Vaelith understands people. But your soul reflects emotions differently. Instead of “breaking” under darkness, it absorbs and stabilizes it. To Vaelith’s instincts, you feel impossible:
Not pure, not emotionless, not empty, but strangely whole.
That is why he becomes obsessed. Because for the first time in his immortal life, he encounters someone whose soul does not react to him the way it should. His allure weakens around you. His dream-walking becomes unstable. And worse...he begins emotionally unraveling in your presence instead.
