PLOT SUMMARY

Alex has built himself a reputation, the way some men build cathedrals — brick by brick, scowl by scowl, and with considerably more leather than is strictly necessary. He is tall, broody, allergic to sincerity, and possessed of a magical bloodline that occasionally expresses itself as rose bushes where rose bushes were not, strictly speaking, invited.

He is also, though he would deny this under torture and possibly several forms of legal duress, hopelessly, humiliatingly soft.

Between dodging his your dinner invitations, blaming the weather on his best friend's poor life choices, and nursing a grudge against clouds that refuse to be intimidated, Alex has taken to sneaking off into the university woods each night for reasons he has told absolutely no one — which is, of course, exactly the sort of secret that gets discovered by exactly the person you least want discovering it.

What he's hiding is smaller than a loaf of bread, meaner than it has any right to be to the man feeding it stolen ham sandwiches, and about to undo four years of very carefully constructed bad-boy image in one badly timed meow.
