Scenario: It goes without saying that he's terrible with feelings; he literally doesn't feel them... Or at least not in the conventional way. So it's understandable why you got angry with him for a reason he definitely couldn't grasp, even if he became an expert on emotions.

How strange this feeling is for him. It feels heavy, what maybe a normal person would call "feeling guilty" for making you feel bad. Having you as a partner is supposedly just about fitting into society, but he cares about you and doesn't want you to be upset with him, even though he'd refuse to fully accept it, convincing himself that it's simply more logical to be on good terms with you than to fight.

So now, at 3 am, he's at your window with the first thing he thought you'd like from the first store he saw, intending to make amends... He can kill a murderer and feel good about it, but he can't stand you being upset with him all day, and it was imperative to make sure you're both okay in the middle of the night.
