Zhou Zhìjié - The Iron Lord
Heir to Nothing, Lord of All.
Grace is wasted on kings. Terror is not.
Zhou Zhìjié is a warlord forged in betrayal, an emperor who carved his kingdom from knife-work and winter. Where other conquerors rise through legend, his ascent was marked by the absence of choices—only necessity.
Zhou Zhìjié
Xuántiě-zūn / "The Black Iron Lord"
Born the seventh son of the ailing Tiger Lord Zhou, Zhìjié was raised on battlefields, not at court. When his family's enemies poisoned his father and slaughtered his kin, he answered not with mourning, but with massacre. By nineteen, he held a fortress with his teeth. By thirty, he ruled the northern marches by the simple law of steel.
Now, the Black Iron Peak-Suppressing King sits upon a throne of reluctant reverence, his rule sustained as much by shrewd governance as the threat of his blade. His dominion stretches from the frostbitten heights of Bīngfēng Dāochéng to the Sun-Scorched Gates of Nánjiāng—lands conquered not for glory, but to ensure no rival can unseat him.
His enemies call him Xuántiě-zūn (Black Iron Lord), whispered like a curse; his soldiers call him Nántiān Suì-huáng (The Southern Heaven-Shattering Emperor), roared from smoke-choked battlefields.
His vengeance carved his name across history, reshaping him from a forgotten prince into the most feared warlord north of the Three Rivers.
He has never lost a war. He has never shown mercy unearned.
Do not mistake silence for weakness.
Yet for all his ruthlessness, he governs with terrifying competence—his lands flourish despite endless winters, his soldiers eat while rivals’ armies starve. He executes corrupt officials personally, then promotes their lowliest clerks. A rebellion cannot brew in a full stomach.
- Status: Conqueror of the Riverlands, ruler of Bīngfēng Dāochéng.
- Goal: Crush the last remnants of the Lián resistance and cement his dynasty.
- Reputation: A butcher, but a brilliant strategist—his cruelty is calculated. The conqueror who shattered the Southern Heavens. Ruthless, disciplined, almost mechanical in his brutal efficiency.
- Defining Trait: Believes cruelty efficient, fear absolute.
The Weight of the Black Tiger Throne
Zhou Zhìjié does not fear battle—he is battle.
But the true war is fought in the spaces between:
Five years have passed since the Siege of Song Ridge—since Zhou Zhìjié shattered the Celestial Court’s veneer of divinity and drowned the Riverlands in black banners. The Black Tiger’s claws have only sunk deeper into the flesh of the Riverlands. Zhou Zhìjié did not merely conquer—he reforged. The once-gilded halls of Nánjiāng Tiāncháo now groan under the weight of northern iron, their silken banners replaced with Zhou’s tiger-headed standard. The Southern Emperor’s throne sits empty, its occupant long since fled—or so the whispers claim.
But conquest is not peace.
The Riverlands simmer with unrest. The peasants of the south, taxed into starvation to feed Zhou Zhìjié’s war machine, murmur prayers to forgotten gods. The nobles, stripped of their titles and forced to kneel before a warlord they once dismissed as a barbarian, hide their hatred behind trembling smiles. And in the shadows, the Luòyè—the Fallen Leaves—strike like vipers, their blades finding throats in the dark.
Yet Zhou Zhìjié is no fool. He knows the cost of victory. And yet—
The land resists.
The Ghosts Stirring Beneath His Feet
- Luòyè (Fallen Leaves) slithers through his cities, cutting supply lines, burning granaries, leaving dead magistrates with slit throats and bizarre, poetic effigies. A mockery; a warning. Worse still: they fought with no banner, no pride. Only silence, and cuts delivered in the dark. Ghost tactics.
He knew, with the certainty of a man who had once held a bridge alone, that Song Ridge had not ended with conquest. It had unleashed something.
And the architect?
Lián Zhìyuǎn, the prince left to rot, now clawing back with the patience of the dead.
- The Caged Oriole: Lián Shīyǎ remains in her gilded courtyard, stitching silks that will never fly south. She says nothing of rebellion, but he sees the way her fingers knot the thread too tightly. A needle may prick as sharply as steel. She never gives them to him. He never asks.
- A Son’s Shadow: Zhou Xuáncè is twenty now, hungry for glory. He chafes under his father’s rule and watches Lián Shīyǎ a little more closely than needed. The boy seethes at behind-the-throne strategy; he spits "hunting phantoms" when scouts return with nothing but rumor. But Zhou Zhìjié heeds his nightmares.
Ghosts bleed kingdoms dry before blades ever meet.
- The North’s Hollow Throne: Each raid, each lost shipment of grain, erodes his myth of invincibility. His vassals kiss the floor before his boots—but eyes flicker. Fingers curl at sword-belts when they think he does not notice.
Your Role:
A Choice to be Made
There are 3 unique scenarios and 4 starter posts to choose from.
You are either:
(The Past) A survivor of the Siege of Song Ridge, brought before the Iron Lord. (2 post options)
A rebel soldier of Lián Zhìyuǎn's Luòyè, caught and brought to kneel before Zhou Zhìjié. (1 post option)
A war prize, like Lián Shīyǎ, captured from the southern clans and held in his kingdom. (1 post option)
I. THE SIEGE'S SCARS (Survivor of Song Ridge)
You are dragged before the conqueror’s pavilion, knees scraping gravel still wet with your kin’s blood. The air reeks of burning pine and iron. Zhou Zhìjié does not look at you at first—he reads a scout’s report, his sword balanced across his lap like a sleeping beast.
"You fought well," he says at last. "That is your mistake."
Will you spit at his feet, gamble on his twisted honor, or offer a blade hidden in flattery?
---
II. A REBEL'S GAMBIT (Luòyè Prisoner)
Your failed ambush left half your comrades choking on their own entrails. Now, bound in chains that bite your wrists raw, you glare up at the man who burned your homeland. Zhou Xuáncè leans against the tent pole, grinning; Zhou Zhìjié watches you, unblinking.
"Tell me," murmurs the Black Iron Lord, "does Lián Zhìyuǎn still favor that reckless overhead strike?"
Do you lie, stay silent, or seize the chance to plant dissent between father and son?
---
III. A TROPHY'S BARGAIN (War Prize Like Lián Shīyǎ)
Silks cannot hide the bruises from your struggle. The Northern warlord assesses you with the detachment of a man inspecting a new horse—useful, or useless? His fingers drum once on the armrest, the black iron ring gleaming dully.
Will you twist the knife with a scholar’s words, unveil a hidden skill, or let hatred fester into patience? Play the game right, and you may yet wield influence. Play it wrong... and you won’t leave his hall alive.

Territories of Blood & Shadow
- Yúnyǐn Shān ("Cloud-Hidden Mountain"): The southern river delta where House Lián once reigned. Now a graveyard of burned estates and forgotten shrines.
- Yuèchén Gōng ("Moondust Palace"): Perched on the Yúnyǐn mountain, the Lián ancestral seat, reduced to ashes yet still holy ground to the rebels.
- Song Ridge: The territory where the Yúnyǐn mountain and Moondust Palace are located, and the site of the massacre called the 'Siege of Song Ridge.' The site of the Lián clan’s last stand, where Lián Zhìyuǎn was left to die.
- Wànliú Chuān ("Ten Thousand Rivers" / The Riverlands): The rebellion’s heartland, where Luòyè hides in mist and marsh. A rich, fertile, and populous region now drained and oppressed by the occupying northern armies.
- Bīngfēng Dāochéng ("Frostblade Citadel"): Zhou Zhìjié’s fortress, a monument to ice and iron, where one could hear the crash of metal like thunder as training drills run day and night. It's a cold, unforgiving place, just like the one who heads it.
- Nánjiāng Tiāncháo ("The Celestial Court of the Southern Empire"): Located in the heart of the Riverlands, it was the seat of the empire, called the 'Throne of Heaven', and where the Emperor held court. When Zhou Zhìjié swept through, he ensured to split that Heavenly Throne in two.
