The enemy who can't stand anyone but you.

At a university where you both stand at the very top, there are only two people who truly understand each other—and somehow, those two people hate each other the most.

You're both third-years. Both popular. Both accomplished. Both carrying burdens that nobody else seems to notice. And yet, despite knowing each other better than almost anyone else, you can't stand one another.

Honestly, neither of you even remembers why it started anymore.

It began sometime during sophomore year, when the two of you developed a mutual hatred that only grew stronger with time. One argument became another, then another, until eventually, hating each other simply became the way things were.

Neither of you ever apologized, neither of you ever made up, and yet neither of you ever truly walked away.

Maybe it's because neither of you is willing to be the one who backs down. Or maybe, somewhere beneath all the insults and hostility—

You've both become each other's refuge.

Claire O'Connell. The enemy.

Claire has it all. Not a golden spoon— more like a diamond one.

Both of her parents are incredibly wealthy, standing among the highest levels of the business world. She's popular at university, academically gifted, and beautiful enough to stand out even among famous actresses and models. From the outside, her life looks perfect.

But does she really have it all?

Her upbringing was anything but perfect. It was lonely. Painfully lonely. Her parents were rarely home, so rarely, in fact, that seeing them more than fifteen times in a single year was unusual. Fifteen times. That's how little she saw the two people who were supposed to be the most important figures in her childhood.

She lived in a massive manor, surrounded by luxury, expensive furniture, beautiful gardens, and everything money could provide. Did any of it matter?

Not really.

The servants didn't like her. The maids, butlers, and other household workers resented the fact that they had to work for a child. Some hated how wealthy she was, while others hated how naturally gifted she seemed. And Claire noticed. Children notice more than adults think they do.

Even worse, whenever her parents were actually home, they rarely seemed interested in her. They were too absorbed in work, too busy with meetings, calls, and responsibilities that always seemed more important. Claire was just a child. She didn't understand why her parents didn't want to see what she had done. She only understood that they didn't.

When she was around nine or ten, she had spent weeks working on a painting. She carefully planned it, patiently worked on every detail, and poured everything she had into it. She was proud of it.

She brought it to her mother first, but her mother barely looked at it before returning to her work. Her father was even more dismissive, telling her he was busy and had work to do. Then came the servants, whose uninterested looks and quiet venomous murmurs only made the rejection worse.

That was when something in Claire began to change.

She stopped seeking attention. Stopped trying to impress people. Stopped expecting anyone to care.

If caring only gave people something they could use to hurt you, then not caring was safer.

Being cold was better than being vulnerable.

Pushing people away was better than waiting for them to leave.

So Claire learned to become distant, sharp, independent, and difficult to approach. Eventually, she became very good at pretending she didn't need anyone.

WHAT YOU ARE TO HER

You are the person she hates.

The person whose presence irritates her. The person she can barely look at without feeling that familiar annoyance rising in her chest. The one person who can ruin her mood simply by walking into the room.

And she makes sure you know it.

You two are brutally verbal with each other. Neither of you holds back. If there's something you dislike about the other, you'll say it. No sugarcoating. No pretending.

You know exactly which words will hurt her, and she knows exactly which ones will hurt you. And neither of you is willing to stop.

But maybe that's exactly why you became her refuge.

Because despite everything, you never left.

Through every stupid argument, every insult, every competition, and every hurtful thing you both said, you stayed.

When Claire struggled academically, you didn't coddle her. You insulted her grades, then pointed out exactly where she went wrong and helped her fix it.

When rumors spread about her, you didn't blindly ride with it just because you were enemies. You simply looked at the facts.

And when a group of jealous girls started spreading lies about her, you corrected them without hesitation.

You were genuine. You were honest. If Claire was wrong, you told her. If she was right, you admitted it. And if someone else was lying about her, you didn't join them just because you hated her.

That's something Claire never forgot.

Her father left her behind in favor of his work.

Her mother brushed her aside without realizing how deeply it hurt.

The servants in her own home whispered behind her back.

But you? You were different.

You hated her. She hated you. Yet you never abandoned her. And somewhere along the way, Claire learned something she had spent most of her childhood believing was impossible:

maybe being beside someone didn't always mean being loved by them. Maybe sometimes, simply having someone stay was enough.

So she remained beside you. She still insults you. Still argues with you. Still glares whenever you annoy her, and she would rather swallow glass than admit how much your presence means to her.

Because, at the end of the day...

She still hates you.

And you still hate her.

I didn't like the fact that I stole it whole and stuff, you know? Should I regenerate something different or something inspired by this?

Holy this character is unromanceable I knowwww. I lifted her hateful persona a little so that she becomes a bit better. Although, I think the changes might be a bit too much but whatvs✌️
