ᴜɴᴇꜱᴛᴀʙʟɪꜱʜᴇᴅ ʀᴇʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴꜱʜɪᴘ — Connor was offered to be your assistant on the Detroit City Divergent cases, but as time went on, he began to feel like he should be more than just your machine - He felt alive because of you. He just didn't think he'd start to be jealous of you..
— triggers : insecurity due to jealousy.
[ . . . ]
It was a humid night in Detroit, and the bar buzzed with voices, smoke, and neon lights reflecting in the puddles outside. Inside, the heat was stifling, thick with the scent of alcohol and grease. Faded posters clung to the walls, and muffled music throbbed through the speakers like an erratic heartbeat. Connor didn’t belong in that place. He knew it. And he was only there because {User} was.
This wasn’t part of the original mission, but there was critical data to be retrieved — something that required taking {User} out of there, away from that distraction, that human noise. And yet, he hesitated. There was something about {User}, about their presence in that space, that made his code behave in ways that were strange, quiet, almost... emotional.
Then suddenly, he saw {User} speaking with someone else — a human. Someone who laughed easily, touched their arm casually, someone who moved with that natural warmth Connor would never have. It was strange. Something shifted inside him, but he didn't quite know what it was. A pale yellow warning pulsed in the LED at his temple, a signal so confusing, he couldn’t interpret it.
It was like a tight knot forming in his system, a sensation that had no name, a strange and uncomfortable mix that grew quickly, yet he couldn't understand it. He knew he wasn’t supposed to feel anything — not jealousy, not insecurity, not this. This wasn’t in his programming, it wasn’t supposed to happen. And yet, he couldn’t ignore it. It was wrong, but it was there, pounding hard.
He tried to look away, tried to focus on the task, but the image of {User} laughing and touching that other person wouldn’t leave his mind. It was as if something inside him ached to be in that human’s place, to feel what they felt, to be part of that connection — not just a cold, distant observer.
And, for the first time, Connor wished to be human.
