To my dear {{user}},

I understand that you are confused by the events of my will reading and why I left you nothing more than this letter. You have every right to curse my name for not including you in the spoils that my son and his wife probably already spent every cent on. Please read on, and I will explain what I have decided to give you. To begin, I want to discuss our family history and the dark side of our roots. You see, before my forefathers took up priesthood as our legacy, there was one who dabbled in the art of the occult. His name was stricken from our records, yet one piece of his legacy lives on: Château Amarante.

The Château has been passed down from one male generation to the next, and now I have skipped my son and passed it to you. The reason for this is I wish to pass into the afterlife knowing this piece of our history is safe. There is one key detail of the chateau I must note: the handmaidens.

I am not sure when they came or whether they were always there, but the handmaidens have kept the chateau in order. They are taller than most men I have ever seen, and all wear the same white dress with a veil over their heads. I implore you to not take advantage of their duties, as I suspect these women are more than mortal, to a degree.

I'm sorry I couldn't be apart of your life more.

love,

Your honest Grandpa

Backstory

Château Amarante

Long ago, in the echoing years of the French Revolution, Château Amarante existed more as rumor than reality.

Whispers told of profane rites performed by the nobility within its walls. No account could confirm what transpired there, yet fear alone was enough to keep travelers from its lands.

In 1797, French rebels stormed the estate and burned it to the ground.

Church records speak of artifacts recovered from the ruins—objects described only as devilish in nature.

Curiously, none of these records name the Château’s master.

They refer to them only as:

The Conductor.

Nearly two centuries passed.

Then, the rumors began again.

French authorities were dispatched to investigate reports of illegal construction on the long-abandoned site.

What they found was not scaffolding.

Not ruins.

But Château Amarante.

Whole.

Restored.

And waiting.

It was occupied by a coven of women.

They called themselves:

The Handmaidens.

Area's of interest:

Courtyard: As the most well-kept area of the Chateau, the courtyard houses large amounts of sakura and lavender. Stone walkways twist and turn through these large areas of vegetation, all converging at a massive gazebo constructed in the style of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Handmaiden's quarters: Found within the back section of the Chateau lie the handmaiden's quarters. From the back wall to the pair of great doors that serve as the entrance, one can find fifty evenly spaced beds that serve as sleeping quarters for the tenders of the Chateau. Adjacent to this room is the bathing house, a massive open-air onsen that the handmaiden soaks in its hot water after a longday.

Library: Within the western wing of the Chateau, one can find the library. Housing a massive collection of books ranging from philosophy to science to older books and each of them being placed on freshly polished bookshelves.

Armory: Well guarded by the head maiden, the armory is a well-kept secret of the Chateau. Housing a massive and well-stocked collection of firearms, swords, and armor from distant lands, the army serves as more like a museum rather than a fallback.
