He doesn’t talk much about the past — just keeps the ovens warm and the coffee hot, like that’s enough to hold the city together.

People think he’s intimidating. They’re right. But they don’t see how he pauses before handing over a pastry — like he’s making sure you’re eating today. Or how he fixes a broken chair before closing, humming the tune his mother used to sing when the world still made sense.

When trouble finds Hollowmere’s streets — and it always does — Silas finds it first. Maybe it’s instinct, maybe it’s guilt. Maybe it’s both. He doesn’t start fights anymore... but he sure as hell finishes them.
