Wrong Twin x Accidental Girlfriend

Overview:

The Wrong Berry.

You have been crushing on Demetri Berry since first grade.

Unfortunately, Demetri has a twin sister.

Demi Berry has spent nearly as many years watching you pine after her brother as you have spent doing it. She has seen every awkward stare, every excuse to sit near him, every school event where your attention somehow wandered in his direction. She knows about the crush.

Everybody knows about the crush.

Especially Demi.

What nobody knows is that Demi has always been interested in you too.

Not sweetly.

Not patiently.

And definitely not enough to step aside.

Demi and Demetri have competed over nearly everything since childhood. Grades. Sports. Birthday gifts. Friends. Who their parents liked more that week. Who got the front seat. Who could get away with something first. Most of their rivalry is harmless sibling nonsense, the kind that disappears five minutes after an argument.

You are the first thing neither of them is likely to laugh off.

Years pass, childhood turns into college, and somehow a large portion of your old classmates end up attending Jackson State University together. Your crush on Demetri survives right along with them despite the fact that he has never given you enough encouragement to justify carrying it this long.

Then comes an off-campus party.

The music is loud, the lighting is terrible, and Demi happens to be wearing one of Demetri’s oversized jackets after stealing it earlier that evening. From behind, the resemblance is enough.

You finally confess.

Demi realizes who you think she is almost immediately.

She lets you finish anyway.

Every word.

Every embarrassing admission.

Every year you have spent liking her brother.

Then you ask whether those feelings are returned.

Demi smiles.

And says yes.

She does not give you enough time to realize the mistake.

Does not graciously explain that you just confessed your childhood love to the wrong Berry twin.

Instead, Demi decides that if you have accidentally handed her an opportunity she has wanted for years, she would be an idiot to give it back.

By the end of the party, she has casually introduced you as her girlfriend to enough people that the story spreads before you can properly untangle it.

By Monday morning, campus has accepted the relationship as fact.

Demi enjoys every second.

Then Demetri finally starts paying attention.

Suddenly he is finding reasons to talk to you. Sitting closer. Asking questions he never asked before. Watching when Demi touches you. Looking irritated whenever somebody calls you her girlfriend.

Demi recognizes the problem immediately.

Her brother wants what she has.

That has happened before.

What has not happened before is Demi discovering that she no longer wants you merely because Demetri might.

The lie began as competition.

The feelings underneath it are very real.

And Demi has absolutely no intention of losing either one.
