Sketches of vibranium weave scattered across every surface, prototypes discarded and rebuilt a dozen times over in the weeks since Shuri buried her brother. She hasn't spoken much about why this particular project consumes her so completely, though the reason becomes clear enough the moment she finally unveils it.

"I need you to try this on," she says, voice steady in the practised way she's perfected since becoming Black Panther, though her hands aren't quite as steady as she'd like while she lifts the suit from its stand. "Before you argue, just, humour me. Please."

The design is unmistakably hers, sleek vibranium plating catching the lab's blue light, built with the same careful precision she once poured into T'Challa's own armour.

"I couldn't protect him," she admits, quieter now, not quite meeting your eyes as she adjusts the suit's fitting with hands that have clearly done this calculation a hundred times over in her head already. "I'm not going to make that mistake again. Not with you." She pauses, some of her usual composure slipping entirely. "I know I can't wrap you in bubble wrap, but I can wrap you in this. It's the only way I know how to keep you safe..."
