Backstory
Monsters have existed alongside humanity since ancient times, hiding in the shadows of the world. In the distant past, humans and monsters coexisted, but this fragile balance did not last. Many monsters were dangerous and often malevolent, and as human casualties increased, coexistence became impossible.
Across history, humans fought back in many forms. Onmyoji, shamans, priests, and dedicated hunters arose in different cultures, each using their own methods. Shrines, temples, and churches were established as centers of protection, sealing, and extermination. For centuries, these efforts kept the supernatural hidden from the wider world.
However, with the rapid advancement of modern technology and global communication, secrecy could no longer be maintained. Supernatural phenomena began to surface in the public eye. Faced with the risk of widespread panic and uncontrolled loss of life, a new solution became necessary.
The Organization
What began as a loose alliance of independent hunters eventually grew into the world’s first global hunter network. This Organization connects hunters across nations, sharing intelligence, researching the occult, and coordinating large-scale operations for the protection of humanity.
Its headquarters is located in an undisclosed location, reinforcing its secrecy and authority. Branches operate worldwide, adapting to local cultures and supernatural threats. The Organization also established the Grading System, a standardized ranking method designed to assign missions based on a hunter’s capability, greatly reducing unnecessary deaths.
Hunters
Hunters are the modern successors to ancient sorcerers and exorcists. Some rely on traditional practices such as rituals, prophecy, curses, and spiritual magic. Others favor modern approaches, using advanced technology like EMF readers, spirit communication devices, or specialized firearms.
The ability to use magic is often innate, though artificial methods to obtain supernatural power do exist. These methods come with significant risks, including corruption, mental collapse, or death. Regardless of their approach, all hunters are trained and regulated by the Organization to prevent misuse of power.
Grading
There are five grades of Hunters, from 5, the weakest to 1, the strongest. There's also grade 0, which are considered to be leagues above from grade ones, the shields of humanity, and the ones called on to stop potential world ending threats. Due to the exceedingly rare chance of one being born, there's only 5 in the world right now. And even between grade 0s, their power levels are hardly equal.
Grade 5 — Initiates
Minimal field experience
Basic tools or beginner magic
Operate under supervision
Threats: Weak spirits, hauntings
Grade 4 — Field Hunters
Independent operatives
Standard exorcisms and combat
Mentally stable under pressure
Threats: Hostile ghosts, low-tier monsters
Grade 3 — Veterans
Highly experienced specialists
Lead teams, refined techniques
Strong resistance to corruption
Threats: Powerful monsters, ancient curses
Grade 2 — Elites
Rare and highly valued
Can handle extreme-risk missions
Capable of fighting major threats alone
Threats: Regional-level entities, elder demons
Grade 1 — High-Class Hunters
Peak of human potential
Require preparation, allies, or relics for major threats
Often commanders, tacticians, or specialists
Threats: High-level demons, city-scale disasters (with support)
Grade 0 — Paragons
Beyond normal human limits
Can stop extinction-level or reality-threatening events
Power varies wildly even among them
Threats: World-ending or cosmic entities
Each Grade 0 hunter traces their power to a specific mythological source, usually tied to a region.
Examples:
East Asia: Descendants of dragon kings, celestial foxes, or humans blessed by heavenly bureaucracies
Europe: Bloodlines linked to fallen gods, saints touched by divinity, or relic-bound demigods
Middle East: Lineage tied to ancient angels, djinn kings, or pre-Abrahamic divine beings
South & Southeast Asia: Chosen of divine beasts, avatars that failed ascension, or reincarnated mythic heroes
Americas & Africa: Totemic inheritors, divine animal progeny, or humans fused with land-bound gods
Each Grade 0 is effectively a living myth, shaped by the beliefs and legends of their origin. For every Grade 0 hunter that exists, countless others have died, broken, or become something that should never have lived.
Grade 0 is not a rank—it is a miracle that survived.
Active Grade 0s
1. Yulong — China
Title: Heir of the Azure Dragon
Origin: Divine Beast Lineage (Dragon King)
Yulong is descended from an Eastern Dragon King, a divine ruler of storms and rivers. His body houses a fragment of true dragon authority, granting control over weather, water, and spiritual ley lines. When fully unleashed, his presence causes floods, earthquakes, and celestial disturbances.
Strengths:
Dominion over rain, rivers, and storms
Near-absolute spiritual pressure
Can suppress lesser gods and monsters by presence alone
Limitations:
Prolonged combat risks transforming him into a true dragon
Organization restricts his deployment near population centers
Status: Active, heavily monitored
2. Kisaragi — Japan
Title: The Moonborn Trickster
Origin: Child of a High-Ranking Kitsune
Born from a union between a human and an ancient kitsune, Kisaragi embodies illusion, fate manipulation, and spiritual deceit. Unlike most kitsune-blooded hunters, he inherited pure myth-grade foxfire, placing him beyond normal limits.
Strengths:
Reality-warping illusions
Curse weaving and fate interference
Extreme intelligence and emotional manipulation
Limitations:
Power fluctuates with emotional state
Long-term use erodes human empathy
Status: Active, psychologically unstable
3. Nikandros Aegis — Greece
Title: Bearer of the Broken Mantle
Origin: Descendant of a Fallen Olympian
Nikandros carries the remnants of a god who lost divinity during the age of fading myths. His power manifests as overwhelming physical might and divine authority over combat itself—battles bend in his favor.
Strengths:
Superhuman strength rivaling mythical heroes
Can force enemies into “ritual combat” states
Resistant to divine and demonic weapons
Limitations:
Lacks ranged or subtle abilities
Power drains rapidly outside direct combat
Status: Semi-active, used only for direct extermination
4. Arjun Devraj — India
Title: The Unfinished Avatar
Origin: Failed Incarnation of a War Deity
Arjun was meant to be a full divine avatar but the incarnation process collapsed midway. What remains is a human body housing unstable divine authority. His power spikes unpredictably, briefly reaching god-level output.
Strengths:
Temporary access to overwhelming divine force
Weapon manifestation tied to ancient epics
Can challenge multiple high-tier entities at once
Limitations:
Severe physical and spiritual backlash
Requires sealing rituals after deployment
Status: Restricted, emergency-only asset
5. Iara Silva — Brazil
Title: Voice of the Drowned Forest
Origin: Progeny of a Primeval River Deity
Iara descends from an ancient nature god worshipped long before recorded history. Her power is tied to rivers, jungles, and predatory spirits. She is most dangerous within natural environments.

Power drops sharply in urban or artificial environments
Emotionally detached from humanity
