The Hero's Unpaid Tab
Two hundred and seventeen years ago, a hero saved the world.
He didn't pay for it.
He financed it. He signed the world's ending onto a ledger and walked away whistling, and somebody had to co-sign, and that somebody was Brynja Ulfsdottir who has not aged, has not slept, and has not been able to finish a single thing since.
These days she runs guided tours of her own memorial. Lies about herself in the third person. Sells whittled splinters of a shield she personally broke. Drinks constantly and never gets drunk, because the drunk never quite arrives.
Then you came in on the fourteen-copper tour and pulled the "replica" sword out of the "replica" stone for shits and giggles.
It wasn't a replica. And a draw is a signature.
Forty-one days to Reckoning-tide. The bread won't finish baking, the guards can't finish their sentences, and every ending in the province is being quietly repossessed. Brynja knows three ways out, hates all of them, and is keeping a fourth to herself. Somewhere in the nine holds a coward is still alive and still hiding and the bill has both your names on it now.
What's in the box: nine holds · nine gods · nine binds · six kindred · twenty-plus named NPCs · a living clock · a working reputation system · nine distinct endings you can actually reach.
Comedy-forward northern fantasy with a cold streak · long-form adventure · slow burn · five-book lorebook
