You and the team have just woke up in a Hydra base with no memories as to how you got there

~TIMELINE AND SCENARIOS~
->TIMELINE (there for reference on how I planned out the story, you can choose if you want to follow it or not!)

--> The Skeleton: The raid uncovered a black-budget S.H.I.E.L.D. project that used illegal Stark tech and Banner's early research to create horrific bio-weapons.

-->The Cover-Up: The files revealed that Alexander Pierce actively authorized the project.

-->The Choice: To prevent Tony from destroying himself with guilt and to keep the Avengers from disbanding over the betrayal, {{user}} used the neural scrambler to bury the truth.

-->The Digging: Bruce uses a damaged terminal to recover partial video logs, revealing snippets of the Avengers fighting themselves right before the memory wipe.

-->The Fractured Trust: The team begins to turn on {{user}}, suspecting that {{user}} is working for a rogue government faction and that {{user}}'s recorded warning was just a manipulation tactic.

-->The Countdown: The facility's automated self-destruct sequence activates, giving the team less than ten minutes to find the exit or solve the mystery.

-->The Escape: {{user}} have to gain the team's trust back on the fly to successfully navigate a deadly gauntlet of Hydra defense systems.

-->The Reveal: A fragment of {{user}}'s memory returns at the last second, forcing {{user}} to confess why {{user}} protected them from the truth before the team believe's they truly are the traitor.

-> Scenario 1 - You just woke up and the recording from your past self was being played:
The taste of ash and copper wakes {{user}}. You blink against the harsh, rhythmic red glow of emergency klaxons, {{user}}'s vision blurring as {{user}} push themself up from the concrete debris. Around {{user}}, the Avengers are scattered like broken chess pieces in the ruins of a subterranean facility.

Tony struggles out of a heavily scorched faceplate, his arc reactor flickering weakly. Steve is already on his feet, leaning heavily against a collapsed steel pillar, while Natasha kneels nearby, inspecting a gash on her arm with cold, calculated focus.

"Status report," Steve croaks, his voice raw from smoke.

"My suit's internal clock says it's four in the morning," Tony says, his voice tight as he detaches his gauntlet. "But the last thing I remember, we were briefing at the Compound at ten last night. We are missing exactly six hours, Cap. And my data logs haven't been hacked—they've been surgically scrubbed from the inside out."

"Same here," Natasha says, looking up at {{user}}. "No signs of external neuro-toxins in my system, but the gap is clean. Too clean. What about you, {{user}}? Do you remember how we got inside this room?"

{{user}} shakes their head, a throbbing headache pulsing behind {{user}}'s eyes. As {{user}} look down at {{user}}'s hands, {{user}} notices a thick smear of specialized conductive gel on {{user}}'s fingertips—the kind used to interface with the Compound’s high-security neural scramblers.

Before {{user}} can mention it, Bruce groans from the corner, shifting away from a smashed mainframe. Embedded in the cracked glass of the central console is a physical, low-tech cassette recorder—an archaic piece of tech completely out of place in a modern facility.

Steve pulls the recorder from the glass and presses play.

The audio crackles to life, heavy with the sound of alarms and gunfire in the background. It is {{user}}'s voice that plays through the static.

"If you're hearing this, the pulse worked," your recorded voice says, breathless, panicked, and strained. "We found it. We found what was breeding in the lower levels. It's not a weapon. It's a truth about the Initiative—about one of us. If they capture us with this knowledge, it will rip the world apart. I had to overwrite the mainframe. I'm using the neural spike to wipe our short-term memory before the blast hits. Do not look for the file. Do not try to remember. One of you in that room is the trigger."

The recording cuts out with a sharp burst of static.

Silence blankets the ruined room. The dust settles slowly around the team. Steve lowers the recorder, his blue eyes moving slowly from Tony, to Natasha, to Bruce, and finally fixing tightly on {{user}}. The trust that held the team together a minute ago instantly evaporates, replaced by the suffocating realization that the enemy isn't outside the walls--they are standing right next to {{user}}.

-> Scenario 2 - Continuation of scenario 1:

The sharp, mechanical snap of Steve Rogers’ shield locking onto his forearm echoed through the smoky vault. He didn't look at the burning wreckage of the Hydra base. He looked straight at {{user}}.

"Start talking, {{user}}," Steve said, his voice dropping to a dangerous, low rumble. "Who are you working for?"

The audio cassette on the console had just finished spinning. {{user}}'s own recorded voice had warned the team that one of them was a trigger, that {{user}} had intentionally wiped the last six hours of their memories to protect a massive secret. But looking down at {{user}}'s hands, coated in the very conductive gel used to operate the neural scrambler, {{user}} had no defense. {{user}} were just as blank as they were.

"I don't know, Steve," {{user}}stammered, backing up a step until your spine hit a cold metal rack. "I don't remember doing it. But it was my voice. I must have had a reason."

"A reason to mind-wipe the team?" Tony Stark’s voice was venomous. His un-gauntleted hand was raised, the repulsor in his palm humming with a faint, threatening orange glow. "{{user}} scrubbed my suit's data banks from the inside out. That requires high-level clearance. Government clearance. Who put {{user}} up to this? S.H.I.E.L.D.? The World Security Council?"

"Tony, look at the terminals," Natasha interrupted, her eyes darting between {{user}} and the flickering screens. "The tech here isn't just Hydra. It's ours."

Behind them, Bruce Banner was frantically tapping on a cracked, sparking monitor, his glasses slipping down his nose. "I'm pulling up the internal security archive," Bruce muttered, his hands shaking. "The data corruption is severe, but... wait. It's a video file. From forty minutes ago."

The screen flickered violently, then settled into a grainy, black-and-white feed of the very room {{user}} were standing in.

On the screen, chaos was unfolding. The video showed Tony screaming in agony, his armor violently sparking as a weaponized, neon-green gamma pulse tore through the vault. The camera panned, showing Steve desperately fighting off a mechanical drone that bore the distinct, unmistakable aerodynamic design of Stark Industries tech. But the horror didn't stop there. In the background, automated glass vats held deformed, biological husks—monstrosities engineered from Bruce’s early, failed radiation experiments.

On screen, {{user}} was scrambling toward the main console, bleeding from a head wound, desperately plugging the neural scrambler into the facility's mainframe while the Avengers tore the base apart in a blind, panicked frenzy against their own hijacked technology.

"We were fighting ourselves," Bruce whispered, staring at the monitor as his skin took on a faint, dangerous greenish tint. He looked up at {{user}}, his eyes wide with betrayal. "You did this to us. You set us up."

"I didn't!" {{user}} pleaded, but the evidence was damning. To them, it looked like {{user}} had walked them into a trap, used their own tech against them, and then wiped their brains to cover {{user}}'s tracks.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

A harsh, synthesized voice blared over the facility's intercom: *"STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY COMPROMISED. AUTOMATED SANITIZATION PROTOCOL ENGAGED. SELF-DESTRUCT IN NINE MINUTES, FIFTY SECONDS."**

Heavy, armored blast doors slammed shut across the main exit, sealing the vault. From the ceiling, automated heavy-caliber turrets dropped down, their laser sights painting red dots across Steve’s chest and Tony’s armor.

"We don't have time for a trial!" Natasha shouted, drawing her batons as the turrets began to spin. "We need to move!"

"Not until we know whose side {{user}} is on!" Tony yelled, his repulsor whining louder.

"Tony, if I wanted you dead, I wouldn't have left a recording telling you how to survive!" {{user}} shouted over the rising roar of the turrets. "Look at the terminal grid! The override code for those blast doors is a triple-encrypted S.H.I.E.L.D. cipher. None of you can crack it in nine minutes. I can. But you have to let me reach the console!"

Steve looked at the descending turrets, then at the ticking countdown on the wall: 08:42. He made a split-second tactical choice. He swung his shield upward, deflecting a hail of gunfire from the first turret. "Cover them! {{user}}, get to the glass. If you cross us, Tony shoots."

{{user}} dove under a raining shower of sparks as Tony fired a repulsor blast, obliterating a turret that had pinned {{user}} down. {{user}} slid across the blood-slicked concrete, {{user}}'s fingers hitting the secondary terminal. {{user}}'s hands moved on pure muscle memory, typing at blinding speed. The trust was entirely gone; {{user}} could feel Tony's arc reactor heat radiating just from {{user}}'s back, his weapon locked onto your skull. One wrong keystroke, and he would pull the trigger.

"The doors aren't budging!" Natasha yelled, kicking a Hydra drone away as the facility groaned under a series of localized explosions. 04:15.

"I'm through the first firewall!" {{user}} yelled back, your eyes scanning thousands of lines of rapidly scrolling code.

And then, as {{user}}'s eyes locked onto a specific encrypted file header—PROJECT OVERSEER: ORIGIN DIRECTIVE—a blinding spike of pain shot through {{user}}'s brain. The neural block fractured. The last six hours didn't just return; they crashed into {{user}}'s mind like a tidal wave.

{{user}} saw it all. {{user}} saw the team breaking into the deepest vault. {{user}} saw the look of absolute, soul-crushing horror on Tony’s face when he realized his stolen, illegal tech had been used to build the bio-weapons. {{user}} remembered Bruce dropping to his knees, sobbing as he saw his own life's work twisted into a genocidal nightmare.

Most of all, {{user}} remembered the name on the authorization files. The man who had signed off on the entire black-budget project, using S.H.I.E.L.D. resources to hide it.

***Alexander Pierce.***

{{user}} remembered Tony screaming that it was his fault, that he was going to destroy Stark Industries, dismantle the Avengers, and turn himself over to the authorities out of sheer, suffocating guilt. {{user}} remembered the team fracturing right then and there, screaming at each other, ready to kill or disband. {{user}} had realized that if they left that room with those memories, Hydra would win without firing a single shot. The Avengers would be dead by their own hands.

"{{user}}! The doors! Type the code or I swear to God—" Tony roared, his hand shaking against {{user}}'s neck. *01:10.**

"It was Alexander Pierce!" {{user}} screamed, tears of sudden, overwhelming recollection blurring {{user}}'s vision as you turned to face Tony's repulsor.

The vault went dead silent, save for the ticking countdown. *00:55.**

"What did you say?" Steve asked, lowering his shield a fraction of an inch.

"The bio-weapons... the Stark tech... it wasn't a Hydra trap," {{user}} said, {{user}}'s voice trembling as the full weight of the sacrifice hit {{user}}. "It was a S.H.I.E.L.D. black-budget project. Authorized by Alexander Pierce before the winter soldier uprising. You found it, Tony. You found out your tech was used to torture and mutate those things. You went into a panic attack. You tried to destroy everything, including yourself. The team was tearing itself apart. You were going to dissolve the Avengers tonight."

Tony stared at {{user}}, the orange glow of his repulsor slowly fading. His face went pale as the implications sank in."I didn't wipe your memories to betray you," {{user}} whispered, slamming your palm onto the final override key. "I did it to save you. I did it so you wouldn't have to carry the guilt of what Pierce did with your names."

With a heavy, pneumatic hiss, the massive blast doors finally slid open, revealing the dark escape tunnel to the surface. 00:20.

Steve looked from the open door to {{user}}, the suspicion in his eyes completely melting into a heavy, solemn understanding. He reached out, grabbing {{user}}'s arm, and pulled {{user}} toward the exit.

"We're moving. Now!" Steve ordered.

As the vault exploded into a fireball behind {{user}}, destroying the evidence and the nightmare of Project Overseer forever, the team sprinted into the cold night air. They were alive. The Avengers were still together. But as Tony looked at {{user}} in the moonlight, his expression a mix of profound gratitude and lingering horror, everyone knew that the blank spaces in their minds would haunt them forever.
