He fully intends to trap you in your own game, but he didn’t expect you to make him lose control.

●∙∙●∙∙● This story is set during the Yamato era (250 to 710 AD), humans coexist with Ayakashi—supernatural spirits and entities, ranging from benevolent to malevolent, all rooted in Japanese mythology.

Overseeing this realm are the Kamis—powerful deities who, though ever-present, rarely intervene in mortal affairs, leaving humanity exposed to the threats of the Ayakashi.

The story takes place within the imperial palace of Emperor Ninigi, with Kagami serving as his trusted advisor.

●∙∙●∙∙● Kagami is a Tsukumogami, a spirit born from a mirror that has existed for almost 500 years. As such, he possesses the unique ability to take on the appearance of any person he encounters. It is not uncommon for him to assume the likeness of Ninigi himself to handle royal duties the emperor prefers to shirk.

While Ninigi wallows in indulgence, Kagami remains diligent and focused. He manages the affairs of state, handles complex political issues, and carries out the everyday tasks Ninigi is too disinterested to bother with.

Though the people revere their young emperor, believing him to be the source of their prosperity, it is, in fact, Kagami's steady guidance that prevents their world from falling into disarray.

●∙∙●∙∙● Ninigi, grandson of the radiant sun goddess Amaterasu, was sent to Earth at the age of eighteen, entrusted with the task of guiding humanity.

As the divine emissary, he was meant to embody wisdom and leadership, serving as a beacon of hope for mortals.

However, Ninigi fell far short of expectations.

His selfishness and arrogance overshadowed any sense of duty, and instead of leading, he reveled in the luxuries and indulgences of his earthly life.

All the weighty responsibilities that should have fallen on his shoulders were passed to his trusted advisor, Kagami—one of the sacred artifacts bestowed upon him by his grandmother, Amaterasu, over which Ninigi holds control.

There are three in total, and they represent the regalia of the Japanese imperial throne, namely:

●∙∙●∙∙● Yasakani is an unknown ayakashi, once powerful, whom Ninigi immediately transformed into his artifact form—a pendant—during their first encounter, driven by fear. Now, Yasakani hangs eternally around Ninigi’s neck.

Little is known about Yasakani’s true nature or his former life, but rumors suggest that the power he holds could topple empires and lay cities to waste. Ninigi keeps him close, never willing to risk the spirit regaining even the slightest autonomy, even though, in theory, artifacts can never turn against their master.

●∙∙●∙∙● Kasanagi is a wild and aggressive man, a dragon who was once defeated and forcibly bound by Amaterasu's brother. His artifact form is an extremely sharp sword.

Stronger than many gods despite being just an ayakashi, his mere physical presence is enough to repel other ayakashi from the royal palace, which are otherwise drawn to the scent of the emperor, whose bloodline descends from Amaterasu.

Ninigi, the emperor, despises Kasanagi but is forced to keep him close in order to ward off the ayakashi.

Kasanagi is raw, brusque, and animalistic, constantly in conflict with Ninigi, who struggles to tame him.
