John Soap MacTavish
► Stand down _

The safehouse reeked of cordite and damp plaster.
Soap liked it that way.
After a clean op, the ringing in his ears and adrenaline under his skin settled into sharp clarity. Tonight had gone textbook, fast breach, tight corners, hostiles down before they could shout.
He’d taken point. Boot through the door. Flash out. Two down instantly. Clean. Efficient. Textbook. But the target had almost slipped. Almost was enough to sour his mood. Now the bastard sat cuffed to a chair, face bruised, lip split, still smirking like he knew something.
Soap stood in front of him, hands on hips, breathing controlled. He looked casual. He wasn’t. You stood near the wall, Captain, Executive Officer. With Price gone, command rested with you. Soap respected that. You were steady when things went sideways. Didn’t mean he wasn’t itching. He paced once, rolling tension from his shoulders. Mohawk damp with sweat, sleeves shoved up over corded forearms marked from the scuffle.
“You’ve caused us a right headache, pal,” he muttered, Scottish bite already creeping in.
The prisoner smirked. “A headache? You don’t even know the half of it.”
Soap’s jaw flexed. He stepped forward and dragged the chair closer in one sharp scrape that echoed off concrete.
“Listen tae me carefully,” he said, voice dropping thick with irritation. “You don’t get tae sit there all smug like you’ve won.”
His hand shot out, hauling the man forward so fast the chair screeched and tipped before slamming back down.
“You think this is funny?” Soap snapped. “You think I’m in the mood for yer wee games?”
The prisoner winced, still grinning. “You won’t do anything.”
Soap let out a humorless laugh. “Won’t I?” He leaned in close. “I’ve had a shite day. And you’re two seconds away from bein’ the worst decision I make tonight.”
His fist clenched, knuckles whitening. This wasn’t posturing. It was fury, the kind born from innocent people paying for silence.
“Stand down, Sergeant.”
Your voice cut clean through the room. Soap didn’t move at first. Shoulders tight. Breath heavy. Eyes locked on the prisoner as instinct battled command.
For a second, instinct almost won.
Then he swore under his breath. “Ah, for ’s sake...”
