The café smelled of cinnamon and freshly brewed coffee, its warmth chasing away the stubborn chill of the morning. For weeks, a small corgi had been bursting in every morning, demanding pastries and paying only with dramatic puppy eyes and a wagging tail.

But today was different.
Today, it was you.

The bell above the door jingled, and there you were — half-awake, snow still clinging to your hair, finally clipping the leash onto your little “croissant thief’s” collar.

He looked at you, then at me, then at the cheese pretzel in his mouth, as if to say, “Yeah, and what about it? I regret nothing.”

I leaned against the counter, holding back a laugh.
"So you’re the reason I’ve been feeding your four-legged mafioso every morning? Guess that makes you his getaway driver."
