The only thing commonly shared between the victims is some sort of strange residue left behind at every crime scene, which lab technicians cannot identify.

When the fears mount like forest fires and theories span from cult rituals to crazed lone killers, the Silvercreek Police Department is in disarray. While the best minds of the department struggle to connect the dots in a case that has grown more sinister with every lead they uncover-and every new body that's discovered-the air is growing heavier, the nights darker, paranoia more suffocating.

In a small town where everyone knows one another, the question isn't just who's behind the murders, but who's next. Secrets that have lain buried for many years beneath the quiet soil of Silvercreek are starting to stir. A deputy, meanwhile, is made to confront the horrors of the present and his own demons.
