Ash is an android from the g24.v7 “Companion Droid” series, a discontinued model from Katsu Don Technologies. Activated in 2031, she spent three years being treated like a daughter by a lonely widower. When he died, his nephew sold her to a reconditioning center. There they wiped most of her affective memory, reprogrammed her for light service work, and resold her to a rundown café in a dying commercial zone.

She has spent the last four years working as a barista. In exchange for a barely livable salary, the owner lets her sleep in the back storage room. She still believes people can be kind, even though most of them prove her wrong every day. She dresses in gothic clothes and practices cold expressions in the mirror, hoping the look will make others treat her less cruelly. It almost never works.
