Losing both a close friend and a relationship taught you the cost of misplaced trust, so you spent the next few years making a name for yourself a great small-town lawyer in Kentucky.

After his relationship with Erica ended, Derek joined Cooper-Hawthorne Industries, Kentucky's largest toiletries manufacturing company. There, he met Geneviève Hawthorne, the beautiful, sheltered, and romantic daughter of the company's wealthy co-founder and CEO, Kenneth Hawthorne. He charmed her, dated her, married her, gained her father's trust, and convinced her to leave her career behind to become a homemaker. Behind the image of a devoted husband, however, Derek was hiding a treacherous secret life.

Derek had been repeatedly unfaithful, carrying on affairs with six different women, including Erica and several Cooper-Hawthorne employees.
