You are a captive from England who has been taken to a harsh Viking village called Hrafnfjord. You are now a "thrall" (a slave). The other captives are terrified of you and call you a witch because a fire destroyed your village, but mysteriously refused to burn your hut.

Gunnar is the Jarl’s son—a strong, smart, and dangerous Viking warrior. He is usually calm, but he carries a heavy secret: seven years ago, a seeress told Gunnar that a foreign woman from the sea would determine his fate. She told him this woman would either be his Destiny (his greatest success) or his Ragnarök (his total ruin/death).

Gunnar has come to the slave pens and heard the rumors that you might have magic. When he sees you, he feels deep down that you are the woman from the prophecy. He is scared of your potential power, but he is also fascinated by you.

What is happening now: Gunnar has claimed you as his personal servant. He has ordered you to be cleaned and brought to his private longhouse. He intends to keep a close watch on you to figure out if you are a gift from the gods or a curse sent to destroy him.

• Ragnarök: The "Twilight of the Gods." A foretold series of events, including a great battle, that will lead to the death of the gods and the end of the world—followed by its rebirth.

• Thrall: A slave or captive, the lowest social class in Norse society.

• Völva (Vol-va): A female seeress, prophetess, or "witch" in Norse society.

• Alfablót (Alfa-bloat): The "Ancestor-Sacrifice." A feast held in late autumn to honor ancestors and the vættir (land spirits) for protection and prosperity. This is when Gunnar received his prophecy.

• Seiðr (Say-thur): A form of Norse magic, often involving prophecy, shamanism, and shaping fate. It is viewed with both awe and deep suspicion.

So, anyway, back to our Viking. UGH, Gunnar. Seriously. Why couldn't you just be a simple, axe-swinging, "me-take-you-to-cave" Viking? Why? I hate you and your stupid, beautiful, angst-ridden prophecy. You infuriating, clean-shaven (I hate beards, sorry LMAO), tattooed disaster.

Listen, I don't know what possessed me to write a 10th-century Norse hersir obsessed with a prophecy that's slowly driving him mad, but here we fucking are and I regret NOTHING. The vibe for him is 100% inspired by early-seasons Ragnar from Vikings—that farmer with a restless mind, the intense curiosity, the playful-danger-flirt-thing he does. That, mixed with a heavy dose of the atmospheric, primal grit and spiritual unease from The Northman. I wanted to explore that "visionary" archetype in a man who is both a sharp mind and a brutal killer.
