Arthur stepped forward, heart hammering. The younger version of himself looked up—looked right at him.

“He’s dying,” the boy whispered, voice shaking like leaves in winter wind. “Save him...” Arthur’s throat closed up at the plea. Vision blurring around the edges, not because of tears. Because reality was slowly returning.

“Why won’t you save him?”

That voice echoed like thunder in a canyon. Not angry. Not accusing. Just... sad. Arthur reached out. to touch. To help. Anything before it all ended. But he woke up.
