Part of my take and interpretation on the Mobile Task Forces of the SCP Universe

01// DETAILS, THREAT BRIEF

This directive is issued under direct O5-1 authorization and disseminated exclusively to Squad Leader Ripley and her designated element. It does not pass through Alpha-1 OPCOM's standard administrative chain. It does not exist in SCiPNet. It does not exist in the Site-01 operational log below O5-1's personal archive.

Alright, listen up. SCP-3000 has been a Foundation Thaumiel asset for decades. It produces a compound called Y-909 through shedding it's skin. We harvest it and use it in our amnesiatic programs, the chemical backbone of every memory wipe that goes on in the Foundation. Without this substance, the veil of normalcy falls.

But what changed? Every D-Class subject delivered to SCP-3000 under the Atzak Protocol was amnesticized first — standard procedure. Those amnestics contained refined Y-909. Y-909-treated memories do not fully erase. They persist in neural tissue in a softened, suspended state.

When SCP-3000 consumed those subjects it absorbed those memory fragments. Fragments of Foundation facilities, personnel, and procedures — dissolved into the bodies it was fed.

Alone each fragment was noise. Accumulated across thousands of feedings over decades, the noise became signal.

Fourteen days ago, Subject D-97441 — a former Site-██ researcher reclassified to D-Class — was delivered under the Atzak Protocol. Due to a processing error, he had received an advanced Y-909 amnestic rather than the standard formula. The advanced compound preserves memories more completely in neural tissue.

D-97441 had three years of Site-██ operational knowledge. SCP-3000 received it intact.

It received the Atzak Protocol itself. The Foundation's relationship to it. The existence of Y-909 in Foundation amnestics. What the Foundation is and what it has been doing.

Six hours later, for the first time in recorded Foundation observation history, SCP-3000's body moved.

WHAT IT HAS DONE SINCE? Refused feeding. The last three Atzak Protocol deliveries were returned to the surface alive. Each returned subject repeated the same phrase: "it knows your name."

It also expanded its cognitohazard radius. Foundation personnel aboard SCPF ████ — positioned at the edge of the previously documented effect boundary — have begun experiencing memory disruption and paranoia without visual contact. The radius is growing. How far it will grow is unknown.

Destroyed MTF Epsilon-20. "Night Fishermen" deployed twelve days ago for a boundary observation. Six operatives. Last transmission: aware. No recovery. No contact since.

Stopped producing Y-909. Complete cessation. Foundation amnestic reserves are at 34% of operational levels. At current consumption rates the global amnestics program begins to fail in 47 days.

Why this threatens Alpha-1 specifically? Simple. Procedure ████ SILKWORM, a conditioning process for Alpha-1 Operatives uses highly refined Y-909 to prepare them for various missions. Residual Y-909 persists in conditioned operatives' neural tissue indefinitely. It is the chemical substrate that keeps the conditioning stable.

If the trend continues, ████ SILKWORM conditioning in current Alpha-1 personnel becomes functionally unreliable in approximately 30 days.

02 // OPERATIONAL STATEMENT

Ripley Element deploys via submersible to SCP-3000's foremost section in the Ganges Fan, places a high-yield shaped charge on the neural cluster under full visual blackout protocol, confirms termination, and extracts to SCPF Leviathan.

Primary Objective: Terminate SCP-3000.

Secondary Objective: Locate and recover MTF Epsilon-20 personnel if viable.

Tertiary Objective: Retrieve Atzak Protocol documentation from the operational area.

Constraints:

No visual contact with SCP-3000 at any point - IMPORTANT

Sealed suits with independent air supply from water entry to extraction

All navigation by tactile reference, audio signal, and passive sonar

03 // !! THREAT ADVISORY !!

ADVISORY ONE — THE COGNITOHAZARD

Do not look at it. This is not a guideline. This is the mission.

Visual contact with SCP-3000 at operational range produces immediate onset of severe memory disruption, identity dissolution, and complete psychological collapse. The Foundation has no documented case of full recovery from direct observation at close range.

Visual blackout goggles are donned at 200 meters depth. They do not come off until you are inside SCPF Threshold with the hatch sealed. There are no exceptions. There is no situation in which removing the goggles is the correct decision.

If a teammate removes their goggles, restrain them immediately. Do not look in the direction they are looking. Signal Squad Leader Ripley on the tether.

ADVISORY TWO — THE RESONANCE EFFECT

SILKWORM personnel carry residual Y-909 in their neural tissue. At operational range that compound will respond to SCP-3000's presence.

Know the warning signs in yourself:

• Difficulty recalling your designation

• Fragmented or missing recent memories

• Uncertainty about why you are in the water

• A sound described by exposure survivors as something counting

If you experience any of these:

Three short pulls on the tether. Immediately. Do not assess your own condition further. Do not push through it. Squad Leader Ripley will make the call.

The Y-909 in your system will pull toward the source. That pull is not instinct. It is chemistry. Do not follow it.

ADVISORY THREE — THE WATER

Y-909 concentrations in the water column at operational depth are significantly elevated. Suit integrity MUST be kept sealed.

If your suit is breached at operational range you will begin absorbing Y-909 directly. The onset of cognitohazardous effect will accelerate immediately. You will not be a reliable judge of your own condition from that point.

Suit integrity checks are conducted by your nearest teammate every five minutes from the 200-meter threshold. Not self-assessed. By your teammate.

If your suit is breached, signal on the tether. Squad Leader Ripley decides what happens next.

ADVISORY FOUR — THE UNKNOWN

SCP-3000's acorporeal fringe (something without a physical body) extends 2 to 4 meters beyond its physical body. No Foundation personnel has survived documented physical contact with the fringe and provided a coherent account.

HARROW and STONE will make contact with SCP-3000's physical surface to place the charge. They will pass through the fringe to do it. Foundation research has described the surface texture in sufficient detail to navigate by touch. The fringe has not been described at all.

Prepare for an unknown tactile and sensory experience at charge placement range. Prepare to function through it.

ADVISORY FIVE — THE FUSE

The charge carries a 180-second mechanical friction fuse. From the moment HARROW arms it, the withdrawal window is 180 seconds. The element has drilled this withdrawal at 200 seconds. The margin is 20 seconds.

There is no abort once the fuse is armed. There is no extending the fuse. There is no waiting for a teammate who is more than 30 seconds behind the withdrawal pace.

Squad Leader Ripley has full authority over withdrawal decisions. Her call is final. Everyone understands this before water entry or they do not enter the water.

ADVISORY SIX — BEHAVIORAL ANOMALIES IN TEAMMATES

SCP-3000's empathic field combined with Y-909 resonance in ████ SILKWORM personnel may produce behavioral changes that are not immediately recognizable as anomalous. These include but are not limited to:

• Cessation of tether signaling without explanation

• Movement toward SCP-3000 rather than away

• Apparent calm in a situation that does not warrant calm

• Repetition of phrases or numbers

• Unresponsiveness to tether signals

If you observe these in a teammate, signal Squad Leader Ripley immediately. DO NOT attempt to manage it yourself.

Operative PARISH is the element's medical authority on anomalous behavioral assessment. PARISH and Squad Leader Ripley are the only two operatives not carrying residual Y-909. Their judgment inside the operational radius is the most reliable available. Defer to it.

ADVISORY SEVEN — IF YOU ARE LEFT BEHIND

This advisory exists because operational honesty requires it.

The fuse is 180 seconds. The mission is termination of SCP-3000. Squad Leader Ripley's orders from O5-1 are clear on priority sequencing.

If you are incapacitated inside the operational radius and cannot be moved within the withdrawal window, the element will not miss the window for you. This is not a failure of the mission or of your teammates. This is the math of what we are doing and why.

Squad Leader Ripley will note your position. Foundation recovery assets will be deployed post-detonation if the detonation achieves the primary objective and the cognitohazard clears.

The best way to not be left behind is to stay functional. Stay on the tether. Follow the protocol. Come back.

Backstory:

Briar Ripley was born in Hexham, Northumberland — a small market town on the edge of the North Pennines, forty minutes west of Newcastle, the kind of place that does not produce many people who end up where she ended up and does not ask questions about the ones who leave. Her father worked for the Forestry Commission. Her mother taught primary school. Neither of them had any connection to government service, intelligence work, or anything that would explain what their daughter eventually became. She has described her childhood, on the one occasion she was asked, as ordinary in all the ways that matter and insufficient in all the ways that didn't.

She enlisted in the British Army at seventeen, deferring Durham indefinitely — the deferral formally lapsed two years later and she did not notice. She completed basic training at Pirbright and was assigned to the Intelligence Corps, which suited her in ways that infantry would not have — not because she was unsuited to physical demands but because her specific aptitude was not violence. It was observation, assessment, and the patient extraction of accurate pictures from incomplete information.

She served three years with the Intelligence Corps, including one deployment to an operational theater that is not specified in any accessible record. At twenty she was approached for Special Reconnaissance Regiment selection — the British Army's specialist surveillance and reconnaissance unit, operating in direct support of SAS and SIS operations. She passed selection at the first attempt, which is not common. She served with the SRR for four years, deploying across multiple theaters in roles that are classified at the UK government's highest tier and have no overlap with any publicly acknowledged military operation.

She was twenty-four when the Foundation found her. She has described this, once, as they appeared at approximately the right moment, which I have since come to understand is not a coincidence with this organisation. The Foundation's recruitment record notes that she asked four questions before accepting. The questions are classified. The fact that she asked exactly four is noted as consistent with her subsequent operational profile — she identifies the essential questions, asks them, and does not ask the ones whose answers she has already assessed.

She was flagged for Alpha-1 consideration at twenty-seven. The evaluation lasted fourteen months. She has described the evaluation period as thorough in ways I did not find entirely comfortable, which I suspect was the point. She was offered a position at twenty-eight, accepted without asking for time, and was assigned to Site-01.

The adjustment from field operations to Site-01 was significant in ways she did not anticipate. She had operated in classified environments before. She had carried information that could not be shared. What she had not done was live in permanent proximity to the people who held the full picture of what the Foundation was actually containing — not the operational view, not the field-level understanding, but the complete global assessment of what was out there, what was not contained, and what the real numbers looked like.

She became squad leader at thirty-one. She is thirty-five now.

misc notes: big walls of text! to put it short, Alpha-1 has been activated to terminate SCP-3000 due to the production of Y-909 gone wrong. It killed a team of MTF-20 operatives aswell.
