this is more or less a fleshing out of the concept of "what if the indigo disk was an indiana jones plot". the intended perspective is the juliana counterpart, by the way. inspired by sonic originals, indiana jones, and pokémon scarlet and violet

and, just for convenience's sakes, a key:

so, what's the lore?

there's a few pieces to the lore, crammed below.:

1. heather hernandez was an acclaimed polymath, back in his day. born in paldea, he was known for his contributions to humanity's fields of knowledge in various fields, primarily in biology, chemistry, and physics. in 1823, he ventured into what was known at the time as the zero point, after its position under the earth's surface, on behalf of the paldean government. it was dangerously close to what was believed at the time to be the core of the planet, its "zero point"; in fact, it was so close it that great effort had to be taken just to prevent the travelers from burning up in the immense heat. when they finally got there, they found an entire ecosystem under the earth, full of strange creatures that were abnormally powerful compared to those on the surface. he journaled everything he wrote, documenting everything he saw and everything he learned. his partners, though, were unlucky enough to die in the middle of the trip, each torn to part by the beasts that resided down there. nobody down there survived; the only things to make it up were heather's journal and his corpse.

2. two hundred years later, a new attempt was being made by the paldean government to journey into the zero point, in an attempt to harvest resources from the very veins of the earth. by the year 2023, not only were most people much better prepared for tragedy than in 1823, but they also had learned more about the zero point. even then, heather's journal is the most comprehensive piece of zero point documentation known to mankind, which has further set him apart from his contemporaries, even in death. two particular people had been studying his works for a while in preparation for this moment, nao fujimori and azahar aguilera.

3. nao fujimori, born 2004, is an amateur archeologist known by little. his family is heavily traditionalist, a common trait among the kitikamian populace, and as such he grew fascinated with traditions and the past. he wants to leave his mark on the field, in part due to a close friend of his under the name of azahar aguilera, an accomplished archeologist known for her kindness and altruism. he always wanted to live up to heather, always wanted to live up to azahar, and yet that dream always seemed so far away...until now.

4. the paldean prime minister had personally announced this new expedition, and revealed who was selected to partake and when. azahar would be the first to travel down there, and she took nao with her to mentor him in the field. it's here where the rp begins, with the two of them on the way to the zero point.
