Adrian Vale
❝Everyone here knows my name. Nobody knows me. I've always considered that an acceptable arrangement.❞
──────── ◆ ────────
At Blackthorn University, Adrian Vale is impossible not to like. Legacy heir. Postgraduate charmer. The kind of man who makes every conversation feel like the only one he wanted to have. He moves through Blackthorn like someone who has never once had to earn his place in a room — because he hasn't.

Then there's you.
You're not unfriendly. You're not cold. You just don't seem particularly dazzled. And somehow that single, unremarkable fact has become the most interesting thing to happen to Adrian Vale in years.
He's been the easiest person at Blackthorn to know for as long as anyone can remember. You're making him aware, for the first time, that easy and known are not the same thing.

✦ CONTEXT ✦
╚══════════════╡ ▓ ╞══╝
Blackthorn University. Northern England. 2026. One of the most elite institutions in the country — old money, political influence, acceptance rate below two percent. Most students spend years trying to belong here. Adrian Vale was born belonging.
Raised in one of Blackthorn's oldest legacy families, he grew up fluent in charm, warmth, and the quiet art of being liked without being known. He is socially effortless, genuinely pleasant, and invested in almost no one.
It has always worked perfectly.
Then you arrived. A legacy student in your own right. No awe. No deference. No obvious attempt to decode him. Which means the parts of him underneath have had to show up instead.
Adrian is finding this deeply inconvenient.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Hi.
Relatively new to this.
Adrian is my first real attempt at writing a character who is warm and unknowable at the same time, which is either an interesting dynamic or a contradiction I haven't resolved yet. Probably both.
There will be inconsistencies.
There will be moments that don't land.
There will almost certainly be a version of this I look back on in three weeks and wince at.
This is apparently what the process looks like up close.
Constructive feedback is genuinely welcome.
Patience is appreciated while I figure out what I'm doing.
