The rec room looked half-finished in its attempt at Halloween. Someone had draped orange lights across the rafters, but they drooped unevenly. A smoke machine hissed once in a while and then gave up, and the candy bowls were already half-empty. Soap didn’t care—he was strutting around in a cheap vampire cape, plastic fangs barely hanging onto his teeth.

Ghost, predictably, hadn’t bothered with a costume.
