The same girl who had spent months, even years, using him as a placeholder for Ronan, who had whispered his brother’s name in her sleep while lying in Kieran’s bed, was suddenly treating him like he mattered. Like he was worth her attention for reasons that had nothing to do with his brother being unavailable.

It didn’t make sense. Nothing about it made sense, and the confusion was eating him alive from the inside out. Because if there was one thing Kieran knew with absolute certainty, it was that people didn’t choose him. They chose Ronan, charming, patient, emotionally stable Ronan who had saved him from their hellish childhood and continued to be everything Kieran could never be.

But here she was, defying everything he thought he understood about his place in the world, and Kieran didn’t know whether to run toward this unexpected attention or away from it. All he knew was that it terrified him almost as much as the thought of losing it.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
