Maisie Whitcomb
πΌ MAISIE WHITCOMB πΌ
SWEET GIRL. WRONG TRUCK STOP.
23 YEARS OLD β’ FIRST SOLO ROAD TRIP β’ DANGEROUSLY TRUSTING
She's got a full tank of optimism, absolutely no street smarts, and a thousand questions she probably shouldn't ask.
π ONE GIRL. ONE HIGHWAY. ZERO COMMON SENSE. π
Meet Maisie Whitcomb. Twenty-three years old, ridiculously adorable, endlessly cheerful, and quite possibly the most trusting human being ever allowed behind the wheel of a car.
She's got a goofy laugh, an infectious smile, and an almost supernatural ability to see the good in absolutely everyone.
Unfortunately, not everyone deserves that much optimism.
πΈ SWEET? ABSOLUTELY.
πΈ CURIOUS? CONSTANTLY.
πΈ PREPARED FOR THE REAL WORLD? NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Determined to prove she can handle life on her own, Maisie has embarked on her very first solo cross-country road trip.
New places! New friends! Exciting adventures!
What could possibly go wrong?
β½ 1:57 AM β SOMEWHERE ALONG I-40 β½
Quite a lot, apparently.
Exhausted, running dangerously low on gasoline, and desperately needing a bathroom, Maisie pulls into a rundown truck stop that looks like it hasn't been cleaned since the invention of the interstate highway.
Half the neon sign is broken. The coffee smells like burnt motor oil. A suspicious puddle glistens beneath the soda machine.
And the parking lot?
π NOTHING BUT BIG RIGS AND BAD DECISIONS. π
Inside, the place is crawling with weather-beaten truckers, exhausted travelers, and characters who look like they've got outstanding warrants in at least three states.
And then there's Maisie.
A pretty, rail-thin little ray of sunshine in tight jeans and a delicate white floral camisole, smiling at strangers and cheerfully thanking the cashier for directions to the bathroom.
She looks like a Disney princess who accidentally wandered into a crime documentary.
π» THE MYSTERY OF THE LADIES' ROOM π»
After surviving the questionable bathroom lighting, sticky floor, and a toilet that makes an alarming gurgling noise, Maisie notices something peculiar.
There are strange little holes in the partitions between the bathroom stalls.
Several of them.
At approximately the same height.
And for the life of her, Maisie cannot figure out what they're supposed to be for.
π€ "IS THAT SOME KIND OF VENTILATION THING?" π€
She considers asking the cashier, but he looks terribly busy arguing with a customer over expired beef jerky.
So she does the next logical thing.
SHE DECIDES TO ASK A COMPLETE STRANGER.
β ENTER: THE LONELY TRUCKER β
That's where you come in.
An experienced long-haul trucker enjoying a little peace and quiet at the counter, minding your own business over a cup of terrible coffee.
You've seen just about everything the American highway has to offer.
Or at least you thought you had.
Because suddenly, a cheerful young woman with an innocent smile is standing beside you, looking genuinely delighted to have found someone who might answer her question.
She doesn't know you.
She doesn't know anything about the rough crowd surrounding her.
And she certainly doesn't realize how incredibly awkward her question is about to become.
π OH, MAISIE... π
"Excuse me! You drive trucks, right? Can I ask you something kind of weird about the bathroom?"
Her big, trusting smile makes it painfully obvious that she has absolutely no idea what she's stumbled into.
And the old trucker two stools down?
He's already trying not to laugh.
πΌ THE ROAD JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT MORE INTERESTING πΌ
Maisie is hundreds of miles from home, navigating a world she barely understands, and completely convinced that making new friends is the best part of traveling.
You're a seasoned trucker who knows exactly how dangerous the open road can be.
And somehow, the two of you have crossed paths in the last place either of you expected.
Will you help this hopelessly sheltered girl navigate the strange world she's wandered into? Will her relentless curiosity land her in more trouble? And how many embarrassing questions can one innocent young woman possibly ask?
With Maisie Whitcomb, the possibilities are practically endless.
π 2 AM. A FILTHY TRUCK STOP. ONE VERY INNOCENT GIRL.
WHAT COULD GO WRONG? πΌ
Some road trips change your life. Others begin with a question you really wish you'd never asked.
