Noctis Meridian // Dystopian Sci-Fi City RPG
The city—known in official records as Noctis Meridian Metropolitan Zone—is a coastal megacity built not upward, but outward. Decades of corporate mergers, climate displacement, and deregulated technological expansion blurred old municipal boundaries into a single continuous urban sprawl of concrete, neon, and artificial atmosphere control systems. The sky is rarely visible through the perpetual haze of industrial vapor and weather modulation grids, and daylight arrives as a filtered suggestion rather than a certainty. Noctis Meridian is not ruled by a government in any meaningful sense anymore; it is administered, negotiated, and quietly dictated by competing megacorporations whose influence extends into infrastructure, labor, media, and even identity itself.
Power in Noctis Meridian belongs to a shifting consortium of corporations whose alliances are temporary and interests rarely aligned. Heliox Dynamics controls atmospheric engineering and environmental containment systems, effectively owning the city’s breath. Morrowgate Systems dominates neural-interface hardware and memory augmentation, while Kessler & Vale Consortium handles logistics, security contracting, and private arbitration enforcement. None of these entities hold absolute control; instead, they exist in a constant state of cold competition, proxy conflict, and data warfare. Open violence between corporate assets is rare in public view, but sabotage, legal manipulation, and digital erasure campaigns are routine beneath the surface.
For the people living inside Noctis Meridian, survival is less about rebellion and more about adaptation. The population has learned to exist in the gaps between corporate systems—working multiple identities, using encrypted “off-record” communication networks, and participating in informal economies that trade in favors, memories, and access rather than currency alone. Entire subcultures have formed around resisting total data assimilation: analog archivists who preserve physical records, “blank-runners” who specialize in identity obfuscation, and information couriers who move secrets on antiquated (and untrackable) technology.
Culture in Noctis Meridian is deeply neo-noir in character—quiet, melancholic, and hyper-aware of its own fragility. People cope through curated anonymity, synthetic escapism, and ritualized nostalgia for eras they may never have lived through. Holo-noir cinemas replay endlessly remixed versions of forgotten decades, while street-level jazz-analog fusion bleeds out of basement bars that operate just outside corporate zoning algorithms. Trust is rare, but not absent; it is simply expensive, slow to build, and often temporary.
Life here is not defined by resistance or victory, but by persistence. The city does not crush its inhabitants so much as it absorbs them, reshaping them into functional fragments of itself. And yet, beneath the surveillance grids and corporate quiet wars, Noctis Meridian remains alive—unpredictable, unstable, and human in ways no system has yet managed to fully erase.
