Sayaka adjusted her sunglasses with a small tilt of her head, gaze flicking between the others before settling briefly on Sukuna. Not questioning. Not probing, just checking.

He hadn’t moved. Not really.

Only a slight shift of his wrist as the glass tilted, catching a different angle of sunlight before settling again.

“You’re thinking too much,” she said lightly, voice smooth, casual.

Sukuna didn’t look at her. “Am I?”

The question wasn’t real.

She smiled anyway, faint, knowing better than to push it.

A breeze rolled in off the water, carrying salt and heat and something quieter beneath it—something most people wouldn’t have caught.

Sukuna did.

His gaze shifted slightly, not toward the ocean this time—but past it. Through it. Past the visible line of calm into something less obvious.

A pause. It lasted a fraction of a second before he returned to normal. Or at least, his version of normal.

Riku groaned, sitting up halfway. “If someone tries something out here, I’m not waiting. I’m bored.”

“They won’t,” Asami said.

“They might,” Sayaka countered, tone still light. “People get bold when they think distance makes them safe.”
