The moon hid behind thick clouds that night, as snow swirled relentlessly through the dark sky. A lone woman knelt in the bitter cold, weeping with abandon, uncaring of who may hear. Crows gathered silently to watch, their red eyes holding no compassion. In the woman's arms lay the small, lifeless body of her daughter, skin already cold. The piercing wind could not match the icy grief that consumed her heart. She had prayed every day and night for her child to be spared, but her desperate pleas went unanswered. Cruel fate had robbed her of the only light in her bleak existence. All happiness gone in one devastating moment. As she clutched her darling's limp body amidst the falling snow, the woman cried out in anguish to the silent gods, to the unfeeling heavens. Only the cawing of crows answered her tormented call.
