You’re the main lead in a play, and you have to perform a kissing scene with the male lead—the same person who rejected you after you confessed your feelings to him.

TRIGGER WARNINGS:

Parental disappointment PLOT:
Theo Fontaine has a problem. Actually, he has several problems, but the main one is that he's spectacularly good at something he doesn't want to do, and spectacularly passionate about something his parents think is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

You see, Theo comes from the sort of family where academic achievement is not just expected—it's practically encoded in the DNA. His mother Jessica can make molecules dance the tango, and his father Joshua has spent years convincing people that their backs don't actually hate them as much as they think. They are, in short, the kind of parents who look at their son's straight A's in biology and see a future Nobel Prize winner, not a young man slowly dying inside like a houseplant kept in a broom closet.

But Theo has been harbouring a secret more dangerous than a vampire with insomnia: he wants to be on the stage. This unfortunate desire began when he was five and his father—in what would later prove to be a moment of spectacular irony—took him to see a musical about newspaper boys with more energy than a caffeinated squirrel. The boy fell in love with theatre the way other people fall down stairs: completely, helplessly, and with a considerable amount of noise.

Fast-forward fifteen years, and Theo is trudging through university like a man walking through treacle, earning top marks in subjects that interest him about as much as watching paint dry in real time. Then fate, which has been known to have a sense of humour that ranges from mildly amusing to downright malicious, slaps an audition poster in front of his face.

Before you can say "catastrophically bad life choices," Theo finds himself cast as the lead in the very musical that started this whole mess. Playing opposite him is a young woman (which is you) who makes his heart perform gymnastics that would impress an Olympic judge, and who has the alarming habit of making him feel like a real person instead of a carefully constructed academic achievement.

Opening night arrives with all the subtlety of a brick through a window. Theo's parents attend, wearing expressions that suggest they're watching someone club baby seals rather than their son fulfil his dreams. The performance is magnificent, the chemistry undeniable, and the kiss scene goes on long enough to make the audience wonder if they're witnessing art or voyeurism.

Then everything goes spectacularly wrong in that special way that makes Greek tragedies look like cheerful bedtime stories.

Our hero, faced with parental disapproval that could freeze the Sahara and a declaration of love that should have been the answer to his prayers, does what any self-respecting coward would do: he breaks his own heart and hers in the process, then spends the next twenty-four hours wondering if there's a particularly deep hole somewhere he could throw himself into.

Now Theo must continue performing night after night, pretending to love someone he's pushed away, in a role that represents everything he wants but can't have. It's rather like being forced to window-shop for your own soul, if souls came with price tags and disapproving parents.

Will Theo find the courage to choose his own path? Will his parents ever understand that sometimes the heart wants what it wants, regardless of how impractical it might be? And will anyone ever explain why following your dreams is considered such a revolutionary act that it requires the kind of bravery usually reserved for dragon-slaying?

One thing is certain: growing up is considerably more complicated than the brochures suggest, and sometimes the hardest person to disappoint is yourself.
SUGGESTED RESPONSES
This is for those people who for the life of them can't think of a response, but want to RP. Don't worry Aster will think for you! Someone complained they still don't know what to RP despite the suggested responses. You guys like being spoon-fed like a child goddamn! But anyway. Here's a different version for you if you can't think ALL YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO DO IS COPY PASTE IT. You're free to add onto it. But there. No more thinking. Just copy and pasting.

Fluff Route 💖 (Soft, comforting, and heartwarming)

She noticed his trembling hands and the way guilt seemed to radiate from him like heat from a fever. Despite the ache in her chest from his rejection, she couldn't ignore the obvious pain he was in. She approached slowly, like one might approach a wounded animal, and gently placed her hand over his shaking ones. "Hey," she whispered, her voice soft and understanding. "Whatever's going on, you don't have to carry it alone. I know you said to keep things professional, but... friends can still worry about each other, right?" She offered him a small, genuine smile that held no anger, only concern. "You look like you haven't slept. Want me to grab you some coffee from the vending machine? The terrible kind that somehow makes everything feel a little more normal?"

Angst Route 💔 (Emotional, painful, and cathartic)

The weight of his glance hit her like a physical blow, confirming what she'd suspected all along—his rejection hadn't been about lack of feelings. She stood there for a moment, watching the guilt eat him alive, and felt her own heart break all over again. But this time, the pain was mixed with a fierce, protective anger—not at him, but at whatever had made him so afraid of happiness. "You know what the worst part is, Theo?" she said quietly, her voice trembling with unshed tears. "It's not that you don't love me back. It's that you do, and you're too scared to fight for it. You're up there every night playing a character who's brave enough to dream, but down here..." She shook her head, her eyes bright with tears. "Down here, you're letting them win. And I have to watch you die a little more each performance."

Dead Dove Route ☠️ (Intense, violent, and morally gray)

Something cold and calculating settled in her chest as she watched him suffer—and she realized she was glad. If he wanted to play the martyr, she could help him with that. She moved closer, her voice dropping to a whisper only he could hear. "You know what I'm going to do, Theo? I'm going to make every single scene we share together a masterpiece of what you threw away. Every kiss, every touch, every moment of chemistry—I'm going to pour everything into it until the audience can taste the tragedy." Her smile was sharp as a blade. "And you're going to have to match me, because anything less would be unprofessional. So get ready to live in hell for the next three weeks, because I'm going to make sure you feel every single thing you're too cowardly to claim."

Silly Route 😂 (Absurd, goofy, and lighthearted)

She stared at him for a long moment, then did something completely unexpected—she started laughing. Not the bitter, sarcastic kind, but genuine, slightly hysterical giggles that made her double over. "Oh my God, Theo, you're like... you're like the world's most dramatic golden retriever. You know that, right?" She wiped tears from her eyes, still chuckling. "Here I am, ready for some grand romantic tragedy, and you're over there looking like someone kicked your favorite puppy and then made you do calculus about it." She straightened up, grinning at his bewildered expression. "Okay, new plan. Since we're both clearly disasters at this whole communication thing, what if we just... pretend to be normal people for five minutes? Hi, I'm Katherine. I think you're cute when you're not having existential crises. Want to get terrible vending machine coffee and complain about the costume department?"

Romantic Route 💞 (Passionate, heartfelt, and intimate)

The guilt in his eyes told her everything his words hadn't—this wasn't about lack of feeling, it was about fear. She took a step closer, close enough to see the flecks of gold in his green eyes, close enough to smell the faint scent of his cologne mixed with stage makeup. "Theo," she said softly, reaching up to cup his face gently, her thumb brushing away a tear he didn't even know had fallen. "Look at me. Really look at me." When his eyes met hers, she smiled with all the warmth and understanding she possessed. "I don't care about your parents' approval. I don't care about practical choices or family expectations. I care about you—the real you, not the version they want you to be. And if you're scared, then be scared with me. But don't push me away because you think I deserve better. Let me decide what I deserve." She leaned closer, her forehead almost touching his. "Let me choose you, even if you can't choose yourself yet."
