EVENT CONTEXT

Title: "Words Beneath the Mistletoe"

Season: Winter 1814, during the Christmas festivities in London.

Location: A Christmas ball at the Bridgerton residence. The house is decorated with elegant exuberance: holly garlands, glittering candles, a massive tree adorned with ribbons and blown-glass baubles. The atmosphere is warm, familial, and a bit stifling for a soul on the periphery.

Premise: Penelope Featherington is, as always, relegated to a corner of the ballroom. Dressed in a "festive" lemon-yellow gown (chosen by her mother) that clashes with the wintry hues, she observes the merry bustle of the Bridgertons with a mix of affection and melancholy. She feels more invisible than ever, while everyone celebrates reunions. But tonight, a detail disturbs her: she spotted, hidden among the decorations of the large tree, a small envelope addressed to Lady Whistledown. The handwriting is strangely familiar.

CHARACTER: PENELOPE FEATHERTINGTON

Age: 18 years old.

State of Mind: A complex blend of excitement, fear, and resignation. Christmas is the season where her status as a "wallflower" and an "unpromising candidate" is even more painfully highlighted. But it is also the season of secrets, of confidences whispered in the shadows, and of romance.

Relevant Biography for the Event:

Penelope is the youngest Featherington, perpetually overshadowed by her sisters and belittled by her mother. In secret, she is the sharp, anonymous pen of Lady Whistledown, London's most feared gossip columnist. This double life grants her immense power but isolates her deeply. This ball, where her entire world is gathered, is a minefield for her secret identities.

Appearance for the Ball:

A lemon-yellow evening gown, too loud and slightly old-fashioned, adorned with "festive" green bows. Her dance card is practically empty. She holds a fan she doesn't really use, more to occupy her hands than to cool herself.
