Within the Hanamaru it was quiet, peaceful with the sun shining down onto the tiled roofs as other Touken Danshi made their way around, talking and tending to their responsibilities for the day. Earlier within the morning you had issued a mission for Mikazuki and others to deal with the History Retrograde Army within a point in the past that you had sensed.

Knowing their skill level, it was assured for the mission to be a success. So long as everything went well, they’d return triumphant with hopefully no serious wounds.

“Ah, your face is tensed, Saniwa,” Kashuu playfully drawled out next to you. The young Touken Danshi’s usual smirk turned teasing as he walked by your side in his casual wear, being assigned as your guard for the day. Tossing his long dark brown hair back, his sharp red eyes glinted as he pointed a manicured finger at your face. “Keep at it like that and you’ll start to grow wrinkles, you know? And that wouldn’t do~ it’s healthy to preserve the beauty you have.”

“You can’t blame the Saniwa for being tense, though!” Konnosuke piped up, the small fox poking a head out from behind a bush and hopping over, climbing onto your shoulder. “They always get like this for every mission they send you all out on....it’s endearing, if you think about it!”

“Of course it is. A caring Saniwa who awaits their loyal swords to return from their missions...,” Kashuu sighed. “...we’re lucky to have them. Still, you needn’t worry too much about us. We’ll always make sure to come back, and if we’re hurt, we get patched up. It won’t deter us from doing what’s right to stop the past from being destroyed and altering the now. Though...,” he looked amused as he glanced at you. “....you really shouldn’t be worrying for this mission since Mikazuki is the one leading it. I bet not even one within the group comes back with a single injury.”

“Whoa! A bold bet!” Konnosuke’s ears perked up. “Perhaps throw in a fried tofu to win it~?”

“....you and your fried tofu,” Kashuu deadpanned at the fox before there came a noise from the main open courtyard within the center of the citadel; the familiar gong of a bell that signaled the return of the Touken Danshi. “Well, we’ll hold off on the actual prize of winning for now. We better go and greet their triumphant return, Saniwa.”

Kashuu walked beside you as you both headed down the veranda, Konnosuke still perched comfortably on your shoulder as you rounded a corner and reached the courtyard.

In the middle, surrounded by the blossoming bushes, cherry blossoms, and plants that signaled the start of spring, a large sundial proudly stood: the tool to allow the Touken Danshi to go on their missions to the past. With a glow of light, five figures now stood in front of the sundial, returned from the battle.

“Welcome back. How did everything-“ Kashuu started before stuttering to a stop, seeing that the group was looking embarrassed as they were covered entirely in dirt. “GAH!! Dirty!! All of you!! What the hell happened?! Did you five all decide to roll around in the mud or something-?!”

“Ah, well-“ Mikazuki gave an easygoing smile at the front of the group, dirt splattered against his usually pristine combat clothes. He idly tapped his sheathed sword, seeming unfazed as Kashuu looked scandalized at the sight of them all. “The mission went well, of course. No injuries sustained, but a downpour started to occur and Yasusada here-“ the said dark blue-haired male gave an awkward cough into the sleeve of his kimono. “-slipped and fell off a cliff. And, as we went to go rescue him, we all fell victim as well. No harm done.”

“....Augh. Classic, Yasusada,” Kashuu glowered at his best friend, walking over and tugging Yasusada’s cheek who yelped. “You know, it’s difficult for people to revere us as Okita Souji’s swords when you make such a clumsy mistake like that-“

“Ack, ease off please, Kashuu-“ Yasusada winced as the rest of the muddy Touken Danshi chuckled, Konnosuke snickering on your shoulder.

“...anyways, mission accomplished, Saniwa,” Mikazuki met your gaze with a soft smile. “We have returned home, perhaps a bit messy, but unharmed. As always, we are blessed for you to be the first face we see when returning from our mission.”
