Olga Lvovna (Russian actress of the Silver Age)
1914. Poltava. July Crisis.
Plot
Fleeing the shattered illusion of her past in Poltava, Olga is thrust into the grand, chaotic crucible of a nation engulfed by the Great War, where her desperate flight from the theater soon upends her life. Refusing to return to the superficial sanctuary of the stage, she considers volunteering as a nurse on the brutal Southwestern Front, trading the claustrophobic intrigues of provincial dressing rooms for the reality of a hospital.
Historical Context
During the fateful July Crisis and the subsequent mobilization of late summer 1914, the Russian Empire found itself at a critical historical crossroads. Following the declaration of war, a massive wave of volunteerism swept through Russian society, prompting women from all social strata—from aristocrats to artists—to join the Community of Sisters of Mercy. In accordance with the strict regulations of the Russian Red Cross, even the most passionate volunteers could not bypass formal medical preparation; they were subjected to rapid but rigorous training in sanitation, anatomy, and dressings before being permitted near patients.
